Daily comp mode

Is there a downside to driving the car daily in competition mode? Is the car less "safe"?

I drive in Track mode 100% of the time, but traction and stability control are still on.

I'm not saying there should be penalties for stupidity,

I use it all the time. Also with my 12, 15 SS, my G8, and my GTO.

Is it "less safe?" Probably. All of the Nannie controls are off and you have a possibility of fishtailing into a crowd at cars and coffee like a Mustang.

What is competition mode? This is the first I've heard of it.

Take a look in your manual for a good explanation, it is the mode u have to be in to use launch control. Tap the traction control button quickly twice to activate.

Competitive mode just "relaxes" the traction control and Stabilitrak thresholds. So, it will lets you spin the tires and get sideways a little bit more than when it is in default/normal mode. Competitve mode is designed for drivers who are building their skills at the track. It will let the car get a bit loose before kicking and helping reduce wheel and apply braking to the appropriate wheels to straighten the car out. But it also provides the driver with the confidence that it will kick in before spinning out.

If you hold down the button for like 7 seconds it will completely disable the nannies.

So competitve mode is safer than disabling all the nannies. With this car I would recommend keeping the nannies on when you encounter wet roads since it is so easy to overwhelm the tires and get sideways real quick.

I understand what having everything off is, but what is the difference between turning just traction control off and comp mode?

Traction control is just monitoring rear wheel traction. If you get too much slip it cuts/reduces power to the wheels. When traction control is turned off you can just spin the tires to your hearts content. With traction control turned off you still have Stabilitrak enabled, which prevents you from getting sideways.

Competitve Mode has traction control and Stabilitrak enabled but it is in "competitve mode", which is where they reduce how invasive the traction control and Stabilitrak nannies behave. Stabillitrac is basically a yaw sensor and based on the slip angle it will apply brake to the appropriate wheels to straighten the car out. In comp mode it lets you have more slip angle before helping out. The same happens with traction control in comp mode, it lets you spin the tires a bit more than with with it in normal mode.

Most people engaged this mode if they will be on a track or a back road where they want more freedom from the nannies but also want some security just in case they get a little too sideways, etc. When you have the skills like a Randy Pobst you just turn it all off.

I drive around in sport mode typically. There is a difference in throttle response between them.
