Do you work for Castrol? or just do a lot of google research. You seem pretty passionate over oil not saying thats a bad thing but using what Chevy recommends isn't such a big deal for most. I hope you never have a single issue using the oil you desire but for most of us doing home maintenance on our cars we want to use the recommended oil. I actually use different versions of mobile 1 on all my cars. Who know it may be a scam but its worked for many many years for me.

DI motors have issues with fuel dilution and intake valve deposits that are not an issue with port injection. I always assumed the Dexos 1/2 addative packages were to address these issues. I could certainly be wrong though. As for non dexos oils having an adverse effect on catalytic converters, I'm not buying this as every car manufactured in the last 40 or so years had cats.

Any oil will thin out/degrade rapidly when exposed to fuel dilution, there is no additive package that can remedy that condition. Feel free to research it if you disagree.

Aside from more frequent/wasteful oil changes, running a catch can is your only option, they work (at least the Elite has proven to work, not sure about the others). All these cars need a catch can ASAP.

Update: Received the Mobil 1 0w/40 ESP from Amazon and went to dealership with new oil. They gave me a new filter and changed the oil to my 0w/40 Mobil 1 ESP for free, no charge for any oil change! They apologized for using the wrong oil. I also had them give me a sample of the oil and sent it off to Blackstone for an analysis. I gave them a copy of the email from Mobil regarding the part number for the 0w/40 ESP Mobil 1 oil for their future reference.

NOTE: Had I not asked originally to see a quart of the oil they put in the car, I would have never known the non-DEXOS oil was used. Mistakes happen and they did make the customer happy.

Certainly fuel is going to have a detrimental effect on any oil's performance, however the Dexos addative package is designed to mitigate something, it's not just a total scam. I was just speculating on the possibities. Btw: I've got a catch can along with damn near everything else lol!

The "scam" isn't the oil itself necessarily, it's the crazy mark-up. Other (better) oils such as Amsoil, Castrol Edge etc have add packs that meet or exceed European standards every bit as stringent, if not more so - and it's usually only an issue for extreme drain intervals or cars that sit for months

Change your oil every 4-5k (or according to UOA), keep fuel and other contaminants out to the extent possible, and any modern brand name full synthetic will do very well. This is a low stress engine compared to all these 2.0 L motors revving to 8k running 20+ psi

I run Amsoil Signature series 5w30 on the street and Mobil1 15w50 at the track. I agree that there's some price gouging going on, especially on oils branded Dexos2.

I've heard good things about Amsoil. BTW, is it Dexos?

The 0-40 ESP oil is specified for corvette, no way this oil could be discontinued. Maybe there is a part # change.

Nope, but it's probably just because Amsoil doesn't want to pay all the licensing fees.

I thought the Mobile 1 ESP is recommended by GM because of the emission system protection (ESP) mix of elements in the blend? I used Mobile 1 ESP 0W-40 for the last oil change because of the forced induction LT4 and the cats. If not I would prolly go with Royal Purple HPS with the Synerlec additive.

Anybody have an idea what's going on or what we should use in future. I did read somewhere that 5w/30 Dexos is a replacement for street use. I wonder if this is in some way related to oil pump failures.

No problems with that number in the states. 19370233 Does not supersede to anything else and is still a valid and current # in GM's system.
