Front suspension "bump/clunk"

Hey forum,

A few weeks ago I started noticing a "bump/clunk" in the front suspension when I go over small bumps in the road. My car is a '16 2SS with 41K on it. If the bump is one side or the other it doesn't do it, only if the bump is even across the road and both tires hit it simultaneously and not every time. I have mag ride and it doesn't seem to matter what mode I'm in and the modes are working correctly.

Haven't gotten under it to look myself (it's not even June and its > 100 degrees everyday here now) I have an appointment with the dealer to look at it Monday but I'd like to have some ideas first. Gonna try to at least get it on the ramps in my garage to give it a look tomorrow. Any known trouble spots I should check??

Thx,

Please check the front wheels lug nuts torque, if they’re up to specs, the check the sway bar, the bushings might have some play in it. Hope it helps.

Sway bar end link most likely. Grab an 18mm wrench and a 6mm hex. They clunk if they are 1/16 of a turn loose.

Canceled the dealer appointment. Got the car up in the garage and tightened up a few things. The sway bar end links were slightly loose. Main thing I found was driver side front lower control arm bolt at the knuckle was not tight at all. Took it out for a spin no noise.

This happened to me, apparently, there's a TBS for that and there's some sort of new screw that will prevent it from happening in the future.

Got it narrowed down to the driver side and only on raised bumps, not dips. Raised it up again and spent more time looking and moving joints with a pry bar, still not finding any thing loose.

Even though the sounds not the same as my noise, check the torque on all the suspension pieces.

My noise is coming from the lower control arm but coming loose, had an alignment done and they told me it was no where near spec

I did have a car that once made noise like yours when turning the wheels back and forth, it was a bad steering rack. Anyway, I checked every bolt and found nothing loose. It's at the dealer to be checked. Thx.

Well they replaced the sway bar end link nuts/bolts yesterday and that did not fix it, I could have told them that .

They still have it, guess we'll see what they come up with today.

It was the driver side strut, replaced it. Now I need to replace the passenger side. Not going to have the dealer do it, way to much $$. I wanted them to diagnose and take ownership of the repair and they did. One troubleshooting indication, the driver side would not give much when simply pushing down on the bumper, the passenger side did.

What is a reasonable life expectancy for the MRC struts? My car is 4 years old and ~ 42K miles, good roads here and I don't abuse it. Should I consider replacing the rear ones?

I don't think life expectancy is any different than normal shocks. Sometimes parts go bad for a myriad of different reasons.

My 2018 SS with 26K on it is knocking when I go over shallow ripples in the road - from research seems it is a systemic problem with the cars and the front end knock - so far have not found any resolution - running BMR fully adjustable anti roll bar setup front and rear and have checked all bolts on everything and checked for clearance on the roll bars nothing hitting
