6 Piston Caliper Install

I am getting ready to install the GMPP 6 piston front calipers. I got them for a good price, but they did not come with the rotors. Therefore, I have a couple questions.

1 - should the rotors be replaced, and if so, what size? (currently, stock 2016 SS rotors)

2 - is it recommended to drain all brake fluid and replace? If so, is there a recommended brand?

you cannot use your factory 4 piston caliper rotors with the 6 piston calipers. You need to buy 1le rotors and hats.

it is also recommended to replace with a good DOT 4 brake fluid if you plan on tracking your vehicle

I assume you're talking about the calipers from this kit? If so, then yes you do need new rotors as your SS rotors are not big enough. Rotors that come with the kit are 23245480 (RH) and 23245481 (LH), but it looks like rotors for the SS 1LE will also work. You'll want the SS 1LE brake hoses as well if those didn't come with the calipers.

Don't have to unless you plan on going to the track. All that's absolutely needed is bleeding the air out of the new calipers (2 bleed screws per caliper). Also, make sure the reservoir doesn't completely drain while you are swapping calipers. Will make the bleed process much more difficult.

Yes, that is the kit. As for the rotors, is there something that I can pick up from Advanced or O'Rileys?

As for tracking, not really.

These rotors are not something you can just pick up from your local parts store.. And just a heads up these rotors with top hats are $$$ you're looking at about 600 PER ROTOR.

In all honesty if you are not going to be tracking your car there is no reason you need these brakes. If you want red calipers just paint the factory 4 pistons.. resell the 6 pistons and spend the money elsewhere on the car.

I would hope you would buy new rotors otherwise you wouldn't be mounting the new calipers on the car.

As others have mentioned, I'd be very surprised if they stocked these in a parts store. Might be able to special order them and have them in a day or two, though? I dunno, never tried.

Yes, Rockauto is usually pretty solid. Sometimes can even get lucky and find them on Amazon or eBay for cheap if you search by part number. 23142500 for LH and 23189768 for RH. Difference here is that these don't have the slots in the rotor surface while the PNs I mentioned above do, but those are purely aesthetic in this case anyways.

I have not ordered a set yet but others have and they are complete assemblies, not just rotor rings.

The GM SS 1LE rotors come with the hats. I've gone thru several sets.
RockAuto is good but there are other places, even Amazon.. So do some searching for best price. Search for the ACDelco part numbers for best price.
Left 177-1193
Right 177-1194
(RockAuto omits the dash in the part number)
