I'd argue the 4th gen facelift being a screw up. The '98+ Trans Am cars were sexy as hell especially with the WS6 package. The '98+ Camaros needed the SS hood to look better, but they still weren't a horrible looking car.

The camaro was my point..the T/A-Firebird was awesome....they were horrible enough to kill it.I mean even the 1st gen Camaros outsold the 4th gens.

The 4th gen facelift (despite all of its catfish teasing) improved the look of the 4th gen. The 4th gen's problems stemmed from Chevy's and GM's lackluster promotion (very similar to the problems they're having today), the car's very aged platform, and the automotive climate that it was in. The 4th gen was a performance champion in an SUV climate. No one really cared that it could devour mustangs and make corvettes quiver. The 4th gen was a high maintenance car (despite its bullet proof powertrain) with its gremlins and impractical to own in a society that loved soccer mom minivans and SUVs.

Coming from a guy who went from a gen5 camaro to a Charger, I felt that I got more for my money with the Charger. I had a 2010 2SS/RS manual that had a good mod list. But I was done shifting gears. I live in Toronto and manuals are great and all, but that wears off pretty quick dealing with the traffic where I live.
I'm not a track guy either these days. It's got 4 doors, the 392 Hemi is great and I can paddle shift all day much quicker than I could in a manual. I think the Charger looks great. I just didn't feel the same when I drove the 6th gen SS. Here in Canada they are ridiculously expensive. |

I think some of the 6 gens are sweet such as that hood on the ZL1 looks tough. Tried driving one awhile back and wasn't as comfortable for me as my 5 Gens.
Believe Dodge did the best job recapturing the past with the Challenger than any other manufacturer, and when selling a winner why change it up much? Camaro a close second and still just can get behind a Ford(pun intended) Never been a fan of Dodge interiors though. Newer ones are much better than have been IMO! Glad to see apparently Chevy took notice with slumping sales and '20s will offer a base V8 Camaro at a decent price. So I've heard. BTW I'd pay extra to ensure my neighbors and I all received healthcare when needed. Now just need to figure out the continued education thing and putting the burden of huge student loans on those barely out of their teens!

Do sales numbers make one better than the other?

Not necessarily. It suggests, though, that one car is more popular than the other in the view of new car shoppers.
