Either you’ve been very lucky with the quality of the leather, or you’ve not had enough cars with leather bolsters. The reason I do what I do to preserve mine, is because I have experienced damage like that in my otherwise pristine cars. It happens, some leather coatings are more durable than others.

A simple google search for bolster wear show pictures very much like his (and what I’ve experienced). There ya go, now you’ve seen 3 examples...

Cars with leather I owned or own, 09 M3, 13 M5, 16 M5, 16 330e, 13 ZL1, 15 Z/28, 18 ZL1 1LE, 18 M3, and 19 ZL1 1LE. Everyone in my house knows how to get in and out properly, plus weekly leather conditioner. But I’ll take you comments as a compliment. I appreciate it. Stop dragging ass on the way in and out.

By the pic, you are absolutely sliding on top of the bolsters.

I put leather cleaner/conditioner on about every 2 weeks. There’s not much leather in the car sothis takes about 2 min

Can you not buy genuine replacement covers from GM and have them professionally installed?

Mine looks fine, but:

- My old man always had performance cars, and beat the proper way to enter/exit a vehicle into me
- I'm not terribly out of shape
- I untuck my shirt to cover my gun belt
- I remove my sidearm
- I make sure I have enough room to properly swing my door open
- I use the eject function on the seat memory

"Common" would be a better word than "normal". People drag ass big time, and it doesn't take long for that to cause this sort of damage.

When I was looking to buy my 13 M3, this was a common issue I saw too.

To quote "Stop dragging ass!!" LOL

Those bolsters are big and it takes effort to enter and exit correctly. I had to give my wife a lesson so she knows how and does not cause that. But it is ABSOLUTELY caused by friction from your jeans or clothes entering the vehicle.

Curious about this too, seems like you could buy the top and bottom seat skins separate.

OP... a temporary fix would be to find a shoe/leather polish that closely matches the interior color, this will blend in most of it, however you will probably need to reapply depending how much wear it gets.

Order the covers from your Chevy dealer while you can get them. Have an upholsterer install the new covers butt and back when you are $$ ready to do so.
