over size tires

Has anybody here on the forum put 265/40R20 tires on 9 inch rims on their Camaro? Just wanted to see if that size of tires sidewall would bulge out further than the rim. Let me know if you have pictures. Thanks.

I'm not familiar with every trim level, but aren't most of them 8.5" or 9.5"? On an actual 9", you shouldn't get much bulge, if that's actually what you have. 265 might bulge a little on an 8.5, and might look a little stretched on a 9.5.

There are many different references/opinions on what fits but at least on this one with a chart that I like:
https://m.roadkillcustoms.com/tire-w...y-wheel-width/
it shows 265 is maximum that fits/is recommended on 9" wheels.
However, 265/40 is >2% taller than stock size - why not go with 265/35 instead as that is only ~1% shorter than stock and you get same tire width?

No one has more legal responsibility than the tire manufacturer, and each and every tire has their recommendations for what size rim it can safely be used on. LOTS of tires including a crowd favorite Michelin PS4 say you can safely run a 275/35 on a 9" tire. While I would NOT put my life in the hand of the guy in above comment^^^, I WOULD listen to Michelin.

I 100% agree that the tire manufacturer is the best reference, I just didn't have the OP tire choice info so went with a more generic reference/guideline that as you noted is more conservative than the tire specific ones.
