DIY: Glass replacement outside mirrors
This job is a piece of cake!
To replace the glass on an outside mirror: The glass has a plastic "frame" on the back of the glass. It snaps over the mirror motor to hold the glass in place. There are no tabs or levers to disengage with a tool. Remove the old glass- Push mirror to the inside. Pull out on glass with hand to disengage plastic frame from mirror motor. Install the new glass- Center the plastic frame over the mirror motor and push glass with hand to snap into place.

Have any pics of the back of the mirror (glass) or the mirror housing? When you say "push mirror to the inside" I assume you mean push in (or if power mirror move in) on the glass that is closest to the car, which will provide a point on the outer edge (furthest from car) of the glass to "pop" out the glass? I want to remove the glass so I can paint the mirrors but am worried I'll end up breaking the glass. |

I know this is an old post, but thank you for this information. Will be using this afternoon when I pick up my new mirror housing from paint.

We used to have for right side mirror one that said "objects in mirror are slower than they appear". Sofia find one this seems easy to swap out.

Once glass is out do you think the mirror can be taken apart totally to make a mold to make the mirror out of carbon fiber?

It can be taken apart, this is a few years old but this is my mirror with the broken internal structure circled in red. All other parts are not broken and taken apart, I had removed it from the door panel though

That's awesome Thanks.. was it all clips and screws or did you have to get things hot/melted to separate?

Only screws I remember were the 3 holding the entire mirror to the door that you reach from inside the door panel, everything else is clips
