ZR1 Laptime at Laguna NOT much better than ZL1 1LE

Wow disappointed to say the least. I was anticipating this lap for the last year, and have been very excited about the new Chevy power plant. Especially after it beat the laptime of the ACR at Road Atlanta.

Did you guys expect this to be so bad, or were you surprised? Was it a bad lap or is the car just not that fast?

Yea I watched it yesterday and was also a bit disappointed, I was really hoping it would beat the Viper ACR's time... But I will say that for BDC they don't have to go out there and do 10-20 laps, make constant adjustments, and tweak things until they get the perfect lap. They have so many cars to get lap times for not to mention all of the other film work at the track (aka the shots of it drifting through the corkscrew). My point being that the time was probably set after only 4-5 laps and very minor adjustments so it's probably not perfect, though I honestly doubt they could do much better since it sounded like the ZR1 suffers from the same struggle to put power down as the Z06. I was hoping the ZR1 would be closer to the Performante, but it was over 2 seconds slower :(

The ZR1 has been a disaster from start to finish. It is based on a soon to be terminated chassis and lay out, and is essentially a pimped up Z06 for another $40000. Further it has been spanked horribly by other high performance cars There is just a sensually no reason ever to buy this car especially at anything even remotely close to the sticker price

Let's be honest can you really think of a car under $200k with better performance than the ZR1? The only thing close would be a 911 GT3, and those start at like $189k but with only a couple options they go WAY over $200k.

yeah I agree with this.
IMO for the money, ZR1 would be what I would get if I had unlimited amount of money, even over lambo's. I would own a Porsche and possibly a Ferrari though.

ok... time to wake back up.

That is a very good point. There aren't really cars that are better. I think I was more surprised they didn't fix the ability to get the power down on exit. Such a sweet sounding car, I wanted it to crush everything.

1:32.48. That's a screaming time although not ACR beating. What was the ZL1 1LE time? IIRC 1:34 or so?

He did a 1:34.30, but his lap with the Camaro was pretty impressive and didn't seem rushed.

Hence the main reason for moving the Corvette to a ME platform. In higher performance trims, the C8 will be a game changer at it's price point.

Boy does this get missed when the topic of lap times and records gets brought up.

Dodge literally sent a dedicated track team with the ACR Extreme Aero package to setup the suspension an aero specifically for each track over many laps and a bunch of time.

I would hazard to guess/assume that the same could be done with the ZR1 given the identical level of effort and time.

And lastly, completely agreed that it's an amazing time to be into performance cars when showroom stock cars are turning these incredible lap times at tracks all over the world.
