Awhile back, I mentioned that I use gaffers tape to protect the threshhold/door sill and bottom of the door of the car from unwanted scratches from technicians boots and/or people generally in a hurry when it's at the dealership for work. I promised my F1FTY family that I would get pics and post them the next time I did the taping, so you could do the same. Well, one of my DRLs has a blown bulb and I still have a horrible whistle noise in the weatherstripping at 60+ so it's in the shop for a couple days. Below are the pics I promised...

I suppose you could use painters tape or masking tape, but I like gaffers tape because it is super thick and leaves behind no residue. Hope this helps y'all.

That's a pretty good idea. Thanks.

I much prefer the colors of your plate, matches the car better. My plate will reside behind a smoked plate cover to mute it just a touch. Wife liked the F1F7Y SS better as it fills out the bland plate. I find it odd the SS font does to match the F1F7Y font

Yeah, you'll definitely need to smoked lens it to hide all that white and yellow. I love the Endless Summer plate for many reasons, not the least of which you mentioned in that it matches the car...

Wonder if the SS is a different font to differentiate SS from 55 because they look so similar. In FL we don't have the letter O or the letter S for that reason.

A thousand thanks to Heath who did a bunch of research, made friends in the HW50 forum to get VIN#s, and worked with Matt to order one of each to ensure they were compatible and looked as good as we all thought they would on our cars. He did a video here giving a few tips and showing off what it looks like:

Also thanks to Adam for his contributions to this research!

And yes, my parts are on order! And the wife didn't kill me for it!

$10 Bucks says its the drivers side mirror causing that whistle noise, ask me how I know took me 5 trips and actually proving it to them by taping off the mirror glass to the housing and the whistle disappearing.

I need to wait 2 more weeks then I can go order my personalized plate. Florida is not an easy state for that. Least I know where F1F7Y went now lol.

Thanks for the confirmation. I've been suspecting the mirror. Problem is, dealer can't hear it. This is the third trip and second dealer. We'll see if they hear it or not.

LOL - Cat is out of the bag! Hope you've picked something equally awesome! Every time I've wanted a vanity plate in FL, it's been an easy process. It takes a couple months once it's ordered, but the process has been very easy. What kind of snags are you running into?

Does the mirror housing need to be tightened where it connects to the door? I thought I heard a slight whistle down the highway the other day.

That steering wheel is really tempting, trying to resist. It looks amazing.

My dealer couldn't hear it for 3 straight trips until I was like look I can fix it by doing this (taping the mirror), still took me an additional trip and an argument but it's finally fixed. Give it a go and if it fixes it you can tell them and "prove it".

On the tag I waited awhile because I never found anything I really liked. Finally found one and just need to hope it lasts for another 2 weeks. If i bought it right now I'd have to pay new reg fees for this year. If I buy it in 2 weeks I can just renew my tags for the next year.

The last dealer tightened it and put a crap ton of sealer between the mirror and the plate that attaches it to the door (between the NGM painted part and the black part) but that didn't help at all.

If they can't resolve it this time, I will be taping it and take an hour or two to drive all over town at the proper speed, removing parts of the tape until I narrow it down... Good idea and will let you know how it goes.

I'm surprised on the tag fees. When I did mine three months ahead of the renewal, they made me pay the vanity customization fee plus the specialty plate fee on top of the renewal. Which is what it would have been if I waited until it was "due." It wasn't anything extra beyond that. Maybe your DMV rep was confused?

Today I tried my pedal cover and I find it quite nice. What do you think?

I’ve only seen the way to fix this is to replace the mirror. Based on other threads.

Looks good! Was this kit or just an overlay?
