Garmin Constant Power Cable

Anyone have one of these installed? It looks like it will easily fit flush and I can quickly disconnect in case I need to take the car in for any kind of warranty issue (no need to tap vehicle harness).

I don't have that one but I do use a generic OBD power cable feed for the dash cams in both my son and wife's cars

They work fine and made running the power a 2 minute job

Thanks!

I went ahead and ordered one. I’ll post pics if it works out.

This was the easiest install ever. It literally took less than 10 minutes to install including routing the cable plus the camera. The cable routes up the weatherstripping. No tools or disassembly needed.

The OBD plug sits out of the way and can hardly been seen while driving. If you are looking for a quick dash cam install, this is probably the way to go. Power cable and camera (Garmin Mini 2) was $190 incl tax from crutchfield.

Looks good. I see it has a 24h run timer, have you had any issues with your battery?

I just installed this morning so I don’t know yet. It does have a low voltage cutoff that is supposed to completely power down if the battery voltage drops below 12V.

I chose that camera because it uses <2W of power at 5V. No LCD to power so I can leave it on 24hours with hardly any battery drain.

Yeah, makes it really easy to install and move to another car if needed

This is the power cable I sued on the cars at my house

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Have had them in there for over 6 months and only issue was one kept turning off randomly, turns out the USB plug was slipping out, one wrap of electrical tape, problem solved

Is it safe to assume that the "power out" supply is reasonably generic, as in, should this be able to power a Valentine 1? (Also using a USB-to-RJ11 adapter, natch.)

It would be a small price to pay, rather than tearing apart my '16 2SS convertible in order to install the V1's own hardwire kit.

And I wouldn't mind reaching up and turning off the V1 at the main unit every time, since I am long accustomed to doing that anyway.
