What's Your Plan for a Flat Tire?

All,

For those of you that swapped out your Run-on-Flat's to non-RoF's, what's your plan for a flat?

Did the base and RS models come with a spare and jack, or just a Fix-a-Flat can?

If there's a spare/jack setup available, can you use a mini-spare with the LSD without damaging it?

I've never used a FaF can, do they actually work?

I got this kit on Amazon CHCA1626 , funny I don't rem if i test fit it? I will soon, rotating front tires now. The kit seems pretty good and goes with my dark color wheels. It is heavy though, I also have the Husky liner in my trunk to keep spare from killing the trunk. I'll get a photo. The spare does take up a bit of room in small opening trunk.

I didn't like the ride of the stock GY RF, I wore em all they way down tho, down to slick on back one side, almost slick the other. I use Michelin AS3 now, and they are pretty good grip. I had Michelin Pilot SS one set too, those were great fun in the summer, I DD mine summer tires even thru dead of winter, just went real slow in winter.

My plan is to cross my fingers and hope it never happens.

Obviously, my 1LE doesn't have run flats, but it does have the tire sealant/inflator kit in the trunk. So, if I did get a flat, I'd probably give that a shot as opposed to a tow truck. The owner's manual says that using a can of Fix-A-Flat could damage the TPMS sensor, while the factory installed sealant won't damage it.

Alternately, if lucky enough and the flat happened close to my home town, I would see if I could get the car to a safe spot, call a friend to get a ride home, and then come back with a jack and lug wrench.

Check out Modern Spare. Picked up the entire kit for my Z/28. Just over $400. If you drive public roadways you need this.

Bought a TPMS safe fix a flat and a tire plug sealing kit (even if it kills the TPMS, big whoop... they are cheap) and threw both in the trunk. Plus I have my tire inflator as well with me. So if that doesn't address any issue I may have, it gets towed. I have roadside assistance through my insurance and Michelin. So either or...

In 15 years of driving and hundreds of thousands of miles, I have never had a flat or blowout on the road. My only flats have been discovered in the morning before I leave for work or whatever and I can pop the tire off and get it replaced. Always ensure my tires are not old, not overly worn and visually inspected and properly inflated. That goes a long way.

Driving around CLE, the roads suck. And I still don't have issues.

It has happened to me a couple times, it is startling, just have to keep control & easy slow down but keep moving to safe runoff area don't stop on side of highway, F the rim not worth a life, just limp w 4 way flashers to safe pull off. I've been driving a little over 30 years. Too many dang deer around where I live, I need to weld & bolt on a mad max cage around my car.

Good point and reminder about the LSD, I would not drive on the spare any longer until to get home or garage very slow, no aggressive turns or throttle with spare on rear.

I carry a plug kit and a small air compressor. If that wont get it done, will have to call a flatbed.

I was thinking about that spare kit, but after sschons mentioned the space issue I don't think it's an option for the Vert. Unless a spare fits all the way into the well below the floor, it wouldn't be possible to carry one around and get the top down. Gotta look into the factory fix-kit I guess. Hadn't thought about ruining the TPS with FaF. I think I'd want an inflator too, so as not to rely 100% on the air charge in the can.

.

Maybe i shouldn't talk about it, but i haven't been stranded either. A couple of times i've been lucky because i got a fast leak close to home, and was able to make it home thanks to the TPMS telling me. I agree that simply paying attention to the tires really reduces the problem.

If I didn't have "Run-Flats" I'd buy run-flats. Of course, I'm being facetious. Aside from all the run-flat complaints, people here have, I've had a couple of would-be flat tires over the years on my Camaro. I did not have to stop driving to address the issue. If I'm going somewhere, I don't have time [or the desire] to fix a flat, especially in bad weather or on a very dark road. To me this piece of mind is golden. It's pure "Wing Chun". This is a kung fu style where we always try to move forward in life by doing the first best thing first- not the second or third best thing first...just saying.

Old Chinese saying: "But the best and cry once"!

Cell phone and AAA. I am now going to jinx myself for saying this, but in all my years of driving I have not yet once been stranded on the side of the road with a flat tire.

Free tow from my insurance company. I don't drive the Camaro to areas where there is no cell phone reception, but if I did, I'd use OnStar.

+1

I have the kit in my ZL1 trunk nearly everywhere I go. Doesn’t take long to change a wheel and don’t have to worry about having the front end scraped up while loaded onto the flatbed.
