Deflector strip - under front splitter - functional?

Hi - I was wondering if the the strip that sits under the front splitter is there for Aero , or for some sort of protection?

I know the manual calls to remove a couple of pieces from under the car when you track it because their only good for improving MPGs. Im not certain if that is one of them.

I thought it was designed to reduce turbulent air under the car. Guess that would improve mpg.

I also think you’re supposed to remove it when tracking the car. But if it’s meant to improve air flow under the car and reduce lift why would they want you to take it off on the track ?

That strip on the ZLE is actually riveted to the splitter in the middle so I don't think that one in particular is meant to be swapped in and out for track days, it's essentially permanent.

Nope. It’s screwed. I have it off on my 2018 but on on the 2019. I’ll take it off one day.

That and other pieces on sides will protect your splitter from scraping damage, and they are ok for performance as it was all factored in during aero testing. Mine has saved me exiting many low driveways and sound lets you know your too low before worse damage happens.

Interesting, on my 2019 I insisted they do no PDI and leave everything in the trunk. When it came time to put this piece on, the kit (in the bag from GM with the instructions, etc.) had all screws except for the very center ("point") of the rubber piece, which had an actual pop rivet...I was thinking it was a lucky thing I actually had a pop rivet gun. It would have to be drilled out to remove it.

This stays in, its not a piece to remove per the supplement for the 1LE. Only the two forward side deflectors come off.

That's 1300 horsepower right there ! 1300 foot pounds of torque,
and in Texas ! Things are always bigger in Texas, Maybe in a few days I can pull my ZL1, and the LS chevelle out and take a picture out in the pasture at our place. It's a beautiful thing to have some room on the range !

Yes, it stays on the car. Re-read the high performance supplement. That piece stays on the car.
