I have the factory painted guards on the rear fenders and nothing up front. Have not had any chips as of yet. This is not a dd but has seen several track days. Hot track rubber is the most problem and it actually leaves a signature just above the rockers and on the front bumper from other cars. Kinda hard to get it all off sometimes. Needs to be expected if tracking the car. I’ve seen massive pieces of rubber hitting cars on the track. Also my windshield is starting to show slight signs of pitting from tracking as well. The other area that suffers is the vinyl wrapped hood. When hot rubber hits that it can actually make a perm mark that cannot be removed.

Plus, I get lots of road tar along the rockers, which shows up really well on the Summit White. I just installed RPI Designs side skirts, so I'm hoping they will deflect a lot of debris. I noticed the RPI has rock guards as well, that go much lower than the ZL1Addons. However, the rear RPI rock guards look a little odd to me.

I also have Xpel on the front bumper thankfully, because on my first track day, the car got hit by a big chunk of molten rubber on the leading edge above the upper grill. It's left a stain I still can't figure out how to get rid of.

Try polishing compound and hand polish it out. Should come off

First thing I did to the car when I got it home was install rock guards. Other than that, I try to stay 4 car lengths or more behind traffic whenever possible.

2000 miles, no chips.

I was planning on having PPF installed until I got quotes from 2000 to 5500 for front bumper, fenders and leading edges of rear quarters. Uh, no. If it were a collector vehicle, I'd do it, but not a Camaro that is underappreciated and will never recoup that investment.

I think I know what I’m gonna do. I’m gonna buy a roll of xpel and replace them as needed. And probably take off my rockguards. I don’t like the way they look. Plus they seem to not be doing much. From what I’m seeing here is only a region the size of a basketball that is really getting chips. I can xpel that myself

Good idea. I cant even apply a decal without bubbles or screwing it up otherwise I would try it. Lol

Unfortunately, I'd have to wrap the entire quarter panels otherwise the seam will show big time on white especially with dust and etc.

Does the seam show that much on your factory PPF? Didn't show on mine unless you bent down and looked for it. Same with the larger replacement pieces. I was even showing co-workers who had to ask where it was before they could see it.

One thing the installer told me about the care of PPF - you shouldn't wipe your microfiber towels from the bare paint into the seam, but rather in the opposite direction. Otherwise, towel threads and dirt could get stuck under the seam and make the seam more visible.

My car has some 3M clear applied to it in spots from the dealer but experience on other cars was how bad and how quickly the sides get slaughtered with road debris so I had ZL1 addons on my car within a week of getting it.

I honestly don't think the rock guards do much of anything. My 1LE still gets rock chips on the rear fenders, and I have the ZL1Addons parts. Most of the rock chips shoot from the bottom of the tire where it contacts the road, and the rock guards don't protect against that..

Would a ZL1 rear diffuser help since it flares out under the sides of the rear?
