DIY Oil Change

I changed the oil in my SS this morning. Probably one of the easiest cars I have changed oil on. A set a inexpensive Rhino Ramps is all you need. Since the oil drain plug is towards the back of the pan, you don't need to worry about having the car on the ramps and not being level. I drained just a little over 10 quarts out. The plug is a 15mm. You can see from the pictures that both the drain plug and oil filter are very accessible. Let the new filter set for a few minutes after you pre fill it to let the filter absorb the oil. You will need to top it off of few times prior to installing it. Also, clean off the surfaces where the filter gasket and drain plug o-ring mate to ensure there is no dirt.

Yea, the V6 is just as easy. I used a jack but I think i'll be in the market for a new one as these 20" rims at stock ride height force me to extend the jack to it's limit just to get the wheels off the ground.

I like the ramp setup, but i'm afraid i'd have to make my own out of wood because I dont like how narrow and short the rhino ramps are (lengthwise for both the angle of climb and once you are up top).

Guys, put a stahlbus valve in, my post is here in this forum, so clean, so ingenious ....I've used it on my last 4 cars and several marine engines

I'd be concerned about the seal in the stalhbus becoming dirty due to dirty oil and then not fully sealing once you pull out the drain tube.

The oil pan screw is actually pretty easily accessible. I dont see a valve as improving things much there. The oil filter could benefit from something improved but other than the bag trig, there's not much you can do to avoid the mess.

Watch the stahlbus vid, they have thought this thru....these are not new....fumoto'sv work well too, the benefit is you drain straight into your disposal jug.

They make a low profile, long approach ramps.

Hope you got the car off the ramps before checking oil level on dip stick.
