Long tubes + X-pipe + ATAK = sounds like crap

The title pretty much sums it up. It has this weird CAKCAKCAK sound when you're on the gas pretty hard (but not WOT). Reminds me of a mind 90's truck I had. I hated the sound after I did the exhaust on that truck. Ended up going back to a 2" Y-pipe to reduce the CLAK sound

Maybe I need to record it but dang its annoying. May have to see if someone wants to trade ATAKS for NPP exhaust or something

Borla Atak = Borla RASP

This is a well known drawback.

Supposedly Borla Ataks are a catback designed specifically for the stock manifolds that these cars come with, so when you throw headers into the mix you get a really raspy sound.

The decibels are definitely there in terms of how loud something is, but there's no tone, just super loud.

Makes sense that they're tuned for the stock manifolds. The car is damn loud though and sounds GREAT at WOT. Its that 75% throttle opening that sounds like crap. The rasp is there but that's not really the issue. I thought the clack sound was from having a leak at the collector but I got that sorted out and the sound is still there.

Oh well I guess.. Reason for drinking

I plan on running long tubes + x pipe + borla touring catback. I researched the borla atak with headers and it was way to raspy.

I think it sounds great at wide open, but have to agree with you that at part throttle it leaves a bit to be desired.

Long tubes, x-pipe, and ATAK is the loudest full exhaust combo you can get for the 5th gen Camaro. Any loud exhaust that has limited baffling will typically have an undesirable sound at certain RPM ranges.

I'd have to disagree on this one. Flowmaster Outlaw with the headers and o/r mid pipe is the loudest sound besides straight pipe. Somehow, it doesn't rasp and sounds absolutely badass.

I can't even imagine the amount of drone produced with that flowmaster muffler lol

Highway driving would be unbearable.

I have the Borla S-Type with headers, cam and ported heads. Sounds just right but there is a bit of a drone at speeds between 62-72 mph.

Here is a link to what my car sounds like ......

I had 1 3/4" LT's, no cats, and ATAK... I had no resonance or weird noise issue, super quiet when cruising, too loud at WOT.
