ZL1 Tow Ring

Perhaps someone can enlighten me on why I see so many 17 and newer ZL1's running around with their tow rings installed in their Grilles.

I been at a number of auto shows and for some reason at least one ZL1 will have it installed. I get a kick out of Mustang lovers who will walk by and say, yeah, they need to keep them installed, they break down so often, and other comments like, if it dont go tow it.

I might understand if it enhanced the look of the car, but it looks more like some afterthought rather then something cool.

Can someone explain this to me? I must be missing something, Thanks

Some track events require it so they can get you moved quickly if something happens. Most people do it just for looks because "racecar".

Would be interesting to see test data on stock steel vs droopy dick aftermarket tow hooks that pretend to be track ready. One yank and that thin section around bolts will.. oh SNAP. But hey, LOOKS track ready.

Left it in after their track event and too lazy to take it back off? Should have one in the back as well in this case...but where to put it?

When they trailer there car to the track they always winch it in the trailer?

They mount cameras on it?

I'm willing to bet the greater majority of tow hooks that are installed, are on cars/drivers that hardly ever take their car to the track... They do it so people think they're cool and don't actually use the car for its designed purpose.

I have a hook because I already have been towed off a drag strip after torching my diff on another Camaro. And I also had that Camaro flat bedded off a road race track. I do not want the track staff to tow my ZL1 by hooking into something aluminum. So for me it's insurance.

And it looks cool to me. And I do like it better in black rather than the red one I bought. Spray paint in a can is a miracle.

And if you don't track your car and you like the look, what's wrong with that? Should they take all the aerodynamic gingerbread off the car if they never exceed 100 mph to make use of it?

We used to make fun of "Ricers" didn't we? Well the ZL1 1LE and ZR1 are so Ricer. And they look pretty cool to me. It turns out Ricer works.

And as for Rustangers, who listens to that basket of deplorables anyway? Sadly they have to Fix Or Repair their cars Daily. I feel sorry for them.

Tow hook

I gave up caring what people thought years ago. When they start paying for my toys they can tell me how to make them look. Drives me crazy when people come up to me and ask me why I did something. A guy at cars and coffee asked me why I put such a big wing on the car. I told him so I could dry towels after I washed the car.

To fill the hole? Most cars have a cover for the hole.

This is why we have them on all of our track cars! They need the car off the track as fast as possible so they will hook it where ever they can and possibly cause more damage. We hope we never have to use it but it's there just in case .

Cheers,
