Does anyone remember where the 'it doesn't fit' story actually came from? I know its been repeated countless times, but is it traceable to an actual statement by someone at GM or is it just something that somebody thinks they heard & we all just accepted it as gospel?

If I remember right, it was from Aaron Link during the reveal.

Correct. Members of this forum posted they asked him about it at the reveal and were told it didn't fit.

The 7 speed looks mostly like a triple overdrive mileage gimmick....Just because Corvette has it makes it desirable?...I don't think so.

I don't know about a "gimmick", there's no doubt it helps with FE...here's a comparison of ZL1, ZL1 1LE, and Z06. They're each identical up through 5th gear. So they had to give up the FE gear in the ZL1 1LE to hit top speed...but the M7 lets the Corvette have both.

In the heavier Camaro you'd probably spec a somewhat different gearset from any of the Corvette's. Per Tremec's own site,

Alternative ratios available upon request; may result in different maximum input torque

Add a 3.91 like the Z/28... I’ll take a lower top speed.

How about a ZL1 1LE (R) with CCBS, speed M7 or A10, and 3.91s as a package.

Most of the M7 Vette owners do not even like the M7...they say the gates are too narrow. All it is in the C7 is a TR-6060, with one more overdrive, same ratios otherwise. No thanks...

That doesn't make the 7-speed a bad idea. More like a decent idea with less than satisfactory execution. A different gearset with perhaps a slightly taller final drive. Like maybe start by exchanging that 0.45 7th for a 3-ish 1st. As it sits, the overall gearing in 1st (7.8:1) is more like a 2nd gear and definitely a bit on the tall side for easy street driving in traffic. Let alone standing-start drag racing.

The time I drove a 7-speed Z51 - on a road course - I didn't find any difficulty with the widths of the gates. Is that mostly a complaint from the drag racers?

I think you should qualify your comment that 'Most of the M7 Vette owners do not even like the M7.. Gates are too narrow" to 'Most of the ones YOU know".
I've had 3 Vets since 2008, all manual, and one of the best improvements was narrowing the shift gate. I've belonged to 2 clubs and anyone I've talked likes the gate in the C7. I've allowed some friends to drive mine and 1st comment was gate was narrow and felt funny but after a couple miles they liked it. Old gate system was like driving an Army 2 1/2 ton truck, it was a joke. They make a good auto if you don't like it or have problems with it.

I like the M6.

I'm pretty sure that the M7 didn't come into play until the release of the C7. IMHO an effort to keep up with the Jones's...I mean Porsches.

I have driven my fathers 2012 ZR1 many times, both street (2K+ mi.) and track (12+ hrs.). Never once did I wish or feel the need for an additional ratio. 6 was just fine.

Now that I think about it, a C2 with an M22 is pretty FN awesome too.

Not a hater, just saying.
