Well, all you did was point out the obvious. Ofcourse a vehicle with 8 cylinders is going to have more power and sound better than a vehicle with 6 cylinders.

My question was to ask how much more I would spend on gas but I already got answers to that. So thanks to the people who gave me the proper answers.

I have a V8 and a V6, the 1LT is the daily driver, it's a very nice car, no complaints. 25 miles each way plus snow and ice make the V8 a bad choice for my commute.

I do not want to jump too much into the V6 vs V8 struggle. It's a matter of personal preference and opinion. I got a V8 as my first Camaro and I do not regret it. In my mind I think " I want a muscle car, it has to have muscles" period, and it sounds fantastic as it is, don't think please that a V6 can sound nice (or as nice), it is just not true, and this is not the point of this discussion and it gets emotional.

MPG wise, I live in Texas now, fuel is not expensive (try Italy please) , my V8 is my daily driver, I only buy premium Chevron or Shell fuel (I work in Oil and Gas and I know something about the chemistry of the fuels, those are the most clean and safe for your engine) my car sits on 19.5 MPG, I drive 35 miles per day and I enjoy every bit of it.
Long story short, do not compare, just know that V8 drinks more, but gives more, nuff said.
A v6 is less thirsty but not as less as what you would think, unless you sit on cruise control all the time, and better to get a Prius for that

I just crossed 80K miles. So doing some simple math, and using fuel cost of $3 per gallon as a constant, I spent just over 10K on fuel.

If I had a V8 and did the same math, using a 17 mpg avg. I would have spent just over 14K. So in the 5 years of owning my V6 I have saved over 4K in fuel alone.

This does not take into account the 7K I saved by not getting a comparable V8. Along with cheaper insurance.

For me the V6 was the right choice this time. As I can continue to use it as my DD.

I will be getting a V8 in the 6th gen. ordering it in early 2017 to go after a 50th anniversary model.

Everyone has to justify their purchase to themself and only themsleves.

Good luck and enjoy.
17mpg with the V8? I have a lot of highway, but I averaged 22mpg with my car stock, then 21-20mpg with bolt ons and tune.

I get almost 17mpg with a big cam, stall, bolt ons, etc. So, If you are comparing the two, I wouldn't go all the way down to 17 necessarily. Definitely matters what your city/hwy mix is, but the V8's aren't that shabby on gas. Now I do use premium so that jacks it up.

I agree, the V8 can get GREAT MPG on the highway. I only used the 17 mpg because someone chimed in on that is what they were getting with their V8.

I used the 24 MPG for mine as that is what I have avg. for the entire 80K miles to date. This includes 170+ passes at the local 1/4 mile track, countless spirited parade laps at the local road course track, more trips to Woodward than I can count.

As mentioned, to each there own on what they want from their Camaro, they are all good, one just has to decide for themselves.

The 3.6L is not the same as the L6 of old, or the miserable 2.8L derivatives, other than the car being so heavy, it is a nice package.

Anytime you can take a 3.6 L (baby V6), get approx. 350 HP, run a 13.66 @ 101 mph in the 1/4 mile, get over 30 MPG on the highway, and handle like you are on rails..........I AM ALL IN for that set-up.

the 3.1 v6 in the cavalier was light enough to make it enjoyable, to bad they took it away from the cavalier. in a normal sized car not so much. V8 is the gateway for modding, so much more you can do. have owned both and the options with the V8 were infinitely more.
