Like you’re saying, he is new to the allocation process, so as long as you have an order in that’s all that matters. I probably wouldn’t bother any further at this point, as like you also say, this is a GM issue and not the dealer. While the dealer may not be relating correct info, they’re also put into this ridiculous spot because of GM.

You may want to consider ordering from another dealership and just going with whomever gets and allocation first. That’s what I did - I ordered from a close dealer first, but also ordered from the largest performance dealer in the metro area I live in. Just make sure both places have refundable deposits.

In 6 vehicles, every single one has been a breeze to get a deal done. He has always been upfront with me. When I purchased my first Hyundai from him back in 2013, I said, "You do realize this Hyundai is only getting me through until my kids are on their own and I can take the extra money and dump it into a Camaro!" He said he completely understood being in the same boat and couldn't wait to get his dream Harley. If I can get this deal to go through it would be great with him being the salesman because of where I started and telling him my goal was being in a Camaro.

I sent the GM of this dealership a personal email and he is the one who directly told me about needing to sell the 1SS first before mine would go through. I admit, I thought it was sketchy but being new to this whole process, without much information to go off of, I figured that's just the way it worked, so I can see how he would think he could lure me into maybe looking at that car but I told him absolutely not, I will wait. I have considered putting in another order.

I am going to email my guy one more time today and tell him what I learned here and just feel him out a bit. I will tread lightly. I don't have a problem putting in another order, I want my Camaro, even if it's not with the guy I like to do business with.

With that being said, I am still wondering if I should change my build to Summit White, instead of Sharkskin. I don't want that to hold me up. I always have a contingency plan in place for things like this so Instead of saying Sharkskin is the only color I want, I force myself into another color just in case. I have been back and forth between the two anyway.

I appreciate your help. Sometimes these conversations make you consider other things.

My order(s) is a bucket list thing for me as I’ve never actually ordered my “custom” Camaro - always what was on the lot. That said, this current climate quite frankly blows and has taken the fun out of it. If it weren’t for this site and the people in the know, it would be even more miserable. Good luck with your situation!

Dang. It's been a full year since my order was picked up, and I thought by now things might be better. No regrets ordering when I did, for sure.

""...the largest performance dealer in the metro area I live in.""

Others have asked this and I have seen answers but I still don't know how to tell who that would be for me. I am in the Charlotte area so if you asked me I would say City Chevrolet however last time I was in there they acted like they didn't need my business. It was in the middle of the "we are asking $5000 over sticker" time.

Just interested since I really would like to have a 24 ZL1 1LE.

Where exactly does one go to find the most updated constraints list? Is it updated weekly, biweekly or monthly?

It's not posted publicly. An employee with the appropriate permissions, like the ones here, have to post them. They are done weekly I believe.

I was fortunate the dealer here isn’t like that at all. They actually laughed when I asked if there were ADM on the cars. We’ll see how things go when there an allocation picked up, but nonetheless, there are still seemingly honest people out there.

Ok, I assumed that would be the case. Thankfully those guys are nice enough to provide updates for us.

Demonspeed, I emailed my salesman to feel things out. I did casually mention that some knowledgeable guys on the forum mentioned that I should not have had to wait for the 1SS on the lot for me to receive allocation. This is word for word his response to me after that email and asking to switch back to Summit White due to the constraints.

Salesman email response: "Ok, got it. I was just over at the Chevy Store this morning making sure your changes going from the LT1 to the 1SS were put it. They were. I will submit this newest adjustment for you shortly...lol. We do have allocation for one. It looks like the allocation for us opens just after the first of the year so we do have it and it will be yours."

Thoughts on that? He didn't directly respond to the part of my email regarding the sale of the previous 1SS on lot.

Update. Salesman email as of 11:32 a.m. this morning - "Keith, just found out we have allocation this week, but GM is trying to force us into a 1LT or 2LT. Our GM has your order in and trying to push GM to accept the 1SS."

Just looked back at your post history. If I have this correct: you wanna order a custom build Camaro (like almost all of us did), but the dealer originally said they couldn't order you one until they sold some 1SS that was sitting on the lot?

Assuming that is the case, that just sounds like some hard-sale shenanigans to attempt to sell a unit that isn't moving for whatever reason (maybe it's overpriced?). They certainly can put an order in on whatever they want - whether it'll be ACCEPTED by GM is the question. That's where the allocation comes in, and hopefully the allocation they supposedly have lines up with the build you'd like to do.

Correct. They had a 1SS on the lot at the time I submitted my build. It was nothing I was interested in colorwise or options wise. They told me that 1SS had to sell before allocation for mine would be accepted. That 1SS 1LE was actually being offered at a good price, however it was Riverside Blue and I told them I had no interest in it. On Nov 29th salesman emailed to inform me that 1SS sold and hopefully I would hear about allocation in the weeks ahead. I changed my build from the LT1 to the 1SS on Dec. 5th. Yesterday was my first interaction with him since that day and I updated his response from this morning in the last thread.

Fair enough. Right now? Just proceed on - whenever you submit the build, you should be given your build code almost immediately. I didn't leave my dealer without it. If they don't give that, it'd be concerning.

Oh, it's been submitted since 11/2....I have the GM workbench and build code. As I was explaining to demonspeed, I've been waiting for allocation but the dealership said I wouldn't get allocation until the 1SS they had on the lot sold, which did happen around 11/29. I emailed dealership yesterday to tell my salesman to switch me to Summit white, since Sharkskin is on constraints. I also mentioned what you fellas told me, which was having that 1SS on the lot should not have played into me getting allocation for my build. His reply was that they would have allocation opening up after the first of the year for my build. Now today he is saying they are getting allocation this week but GM was trying to force them into a 1LT or 2LT, but the GM was going to keep pushing my build to GM. As demonspeed said, this has taken all the fun out of the process.

If they changed the order, the build code is different. Every order gets a new build code, and you can't just change a car from a 1LT to a 1SS without getting a new build code. Even a minor change will change the build code.

Get your new build code.
