lol
Meanwhile the Challenger and Mustang are basking in retro crap.
I mean seriously, the Bullit Mustang is based off a 50 year old car/movie, Dodge's B5 Blue and Plum Crazy are right out of 1971.
Doesn't get much more retro.

Well it aint working for the Stang as their sales fell 50% from the peak 3 yrs ago. Dodge still sells because it is as big as my Tahoe and hence more practical. Imo

The Challenger does retro really well and they sell to people who could care less about how fast it gets around the Streets of Willow as long as it looks the part . For the people who wants more out of a car the Challenger won't cut it , or most of the Mustangs for that . If Chevy just wanted to sell more cars we wouldn't have a SS 1Le because it would be plastered with Z28 stickers with 12 more HP and a cassette player ,it would outsell the 1Le 1000 to 1 , as long as it would look the part .

I think you just summed up my thoughts...sort of....
Why not take the SS 1LE in its current form and call it Z28.... it doesn’t need stickers or a cassette, but people know what a Z28 is.
Most people think 1LE designates whether you got cloth or leather seats....

For people who don’t know what it is (“How come you painted the hood of your SS flat black?”) I describe my 1LE as the “1LE Track Package.” They seem to get that, even if they don’t know exactly what it really means.

The current 1SS 1LE is probably as close as Chevy will ever get to the spirit of the original Z/28 in today’s world. Not calling it the Z/28 (even in the previous generation) is probably the biggest mistake Chevy has made in marketing the Camaro.

Interesting concept but Z28 has to be a top dog track Camaro. And with 650hp ZL1 that would be hardly possible. Now Chevy could stick ZR1 motor in ZL1 and call it a Z28. And that would make sense to me Big Al comments about NA motor notwithstanding as times change. If existing SS 1LE got called a Z28 it would be slower than a gt350R and that would be a big fail marketing wise. For all concerned.

For a good bit of the existence of the Z28 it wasn't much more then a sticker package , not much real track use unless it had the 1Le option . Most of the people won't get the SS/1Le because its not available with an automatic, so even if they pushed it more it wouldn't matter .

You are correct because Camaro has nothing to compete with the GT350R. The class is a NA dedicated track car with over 500 horsepower, Camaro has nothing, forget about sticking in a supercharged ZL1 or the ILE because now Mustang has absolutely nothing right now to compete with that car in the supercharged class. The new GT500 will fill that void.
We need a 500 -525 horse NA LT1 SS 1LE to compete with the GT350R in its correct arena.

That's why they make a seat for every hiney. I dont buy any car to impress you or anyone else. I buy them to my tastes and needs as you should too. You're free to think what you want about any car just as I am too.

Well i dont know about a specific class other than a price point as power plants vary quite a bit these days and FI is the ticket for the future it seems. So based on price zl1 kicks gt350r butt pretty damn good imo. I dont care what sits under the hood: na, a blower or turbos. As long as a price falls within a class bracket and the car performs as promised. Having said all that, i do believe the ss will see a 500+hp motor as soon as 2020 as lt1 is apparently being reworked for c8.

Haha, true. People I talk to think the LE in 1LE is a base model because other cars that are LE or LX or similar are indeed base models.

Back in the early days the Z/28 was a well-balanced, affordable package designed specifically for Trans Am racing; the 1SS 1LE fits that spot now and competes with the GT 350, not the GT 350R. The Z/28 was never intended to be the ultimate, fastest Camaro; the SS396 was the top dog then (at least in a straight line), just as the ZL1 is now; the difference today is the ZL1 handles. The problem with the Z/28 is that Chevy bastardized it into everything from a decal package in the ‘70s to an overpriced, overproduced track beast for ‘15. Chevy’s repositioned the Z/28 so many times, I’m not sure we’ll ever see another one.
