Will the ZL1 get this new engine?

Probably not! GM would have to re-engineer some of it to run in the ZL1 and I really don’t see them spending any more time/resources on the 6gen Camaro.

I would love to see it in a last model year Gen 6 Z/28, similar to the 427 LS7 in the last year Gen 5 Z/28. I seem to remember reading an article where GM was trying to use the 6.6L direct injection 2500 HD truck engine in a Gen 6 Z/28, but once they got it to the power levels they wanted, it couldn’t pass the CAFE requirements and they scrapped the idea and moved forward with the ZL1 1LE instead. I just think the Gen 6 Camaro platform will run out of its life cycle before they got that engine approved for use, in yet another Camaro, by GM senior management.

They would have to engineer it to fit in the car and why would they?
It'll be a less powerful engine than the LT4. So it'll spin up to 8000 rpm, yay..... Another thing is that the Vette fan boys will get all up in arms if a top dog Camaro and top dog Vette have the exact same engine (power and all). Yes the current ZL1 has the same engine but it's not the top dog ZR1 engine. |

Thus putting the responsibility on us, which we gladly accept, to modify the engine to far exceed ZR1 output.

I hate to say this, but beyond the comments about re-engineering the car to fit it etc., I just can’t see why GM would want to dilute the impact of this motor and the Z06 by also putting it in a Camaro.
The Corvette is GM’s halo car now, and the Z06 with the most powerful NA V8 ever, will be a show stopper. Putting this motor in a heavy Camaro would diminish the spotlight the Z06 gets and as well as the exclusivity this motor brings to the lucky Z06 owners I hope they lower the weight of the Z06 enough to really maximize the power to weight. At +120 HP vs the LT1 Z51 and no way for owners to to add reliable power due to the high revving maxed out design, it needs weight reduction, aero and great suspension. |

The 4.2tt used in the CT6-V is similar and it looks very tight in the engine bay of the Omega platform. I believe GM has come out and said that engine doesn't fit in the Alpha platform. Since the upcoming Z06 engine shares similar architecture, I don't see that happening.

And then there is this.....
“ General Motors spokesman Michael Albano told C/D that, because electrification is playing a huge role at GM, the automaker is moving "some of our best talent" to work on current and upcoming projects. He acknowledged that this is a lateral move and not an elevation of position for Oppenheiser, who will remain a chief engineer. "We have launched the final variant of this generation of Camaro, so the time is right for him to move, Albano added.” Here’s the link to the full article: https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a2...electric-cars/ Last edited by Trak-Toy; 04-22-2021 at 07:44 AM. |

It doesn’t look like the 2022 ZL1 even gets the upgraded LT4 (668 HP and 659 TQ) that’s going into the 2022 CT5-V. It seems unlikely that Camaro will get another engine option.
