Yep, when it's warmed up, things smooth out quite a bit.

It does become smoother as it warms up but the issue I am talking about happens quite randomly. It doesn't happen every time. Some times it will feel notchy going into 3rd, and other times the shifter feels extra stiff and resistant to click into gear, but most of the time it's totally OK.

Kinda started noticing the same thing, shifting from 2nd to 3rd, and sometime from 3rd to 4th, I'd feel a "notch" in the knob. Gears go in every time without miss, no grinding, nothing. But the transmission has become a little less smooth since having its first fluid change at the dealer about a month ago.

Would a different fluid or friction modifier change this behaviour?

Seems to me the factory/dealer fluid fill might be the culprit. I wonder what they using. Those folks who have switched to quality brand name fluid (mostly Royal Purple, judging by the responses), seem to have fixed the problem.

These Tremec trannies are notorious for 2nd and 3rd year notchiness! I had the same problem with my 5th gen too. Amsoil atf does seem to improve it but not totally. Mine is due for a fluid change soon at 17k and I’m feeling the notchiness more and more with the stock fluid.
