ZL1 vs SS build

All looking at a zl1 for 28k on Cargurus.com........... SS going for 14-15k.

For the difference would I still spend more on the SS build to get a fun 650hp DD vs going with Zl1 and a few bolt on's?

ZL1 all day, it is built from the factory to handle a lot of power and your almost to your 650hp.

Where are you seeing prices that low? 28,000 for a zl1?

I think you could twin turbo an SS for under 10k and that would be faster than a stock ZL1. The ZL1 would resale better and be less likely to break.

Yes, ZL1s start high 20s currently. I would rather get a 50-100k mile ZL1 myself than an SS.

I must be looking in the wrong places. The only zl1 in the high 20's has very high miles. If you can find them in that range I would buy them all. Trade in value is more than that. I would be wary of miles that high on these cars.

OP, you do not want to buy that car. The ticket to get into a ZL1 costs at least $35,000 in my opinion. A 65000 mile ZL1 car is not going to last as long as everyone is saying. After checking the car fax on the above linked car, it appears it was daily driven as the mileage went from 24000 to 64000 (40,000 mile gain in 14 months when the average yearly mileage is 15,000-20,000 for a daily commuting car, and the average for ZL1 class is 2,000 miles) from late 2015 until early 2017 when it was offered for sale. There's going to be a lot of wear and tear on everything, interior, engine, brakes, clutch, suspension, transmission etc. And I know that ZL1s are built relatively heavy duty, but still 64000 daily driven miles is wayyyyyy too much.

Either buy a ZL1 right or stick with an SS.

The question posed brings to mind something I ran across the other day. This was really interesting to me. Why, other than wanting the name, would someone pay 20K more for this SS than they could buy a properly built zl1?

You're almost always going to be better off starting with the higher hp factory built car than the lower. Whether the high mileage one you're looking at is worth it will all depend on how well it was take care of--which will require eyes on and a good test drive to determine.

That's a good find. One thing to consider is if Mylink is important to you. Mylink are in the 2013+ although you can add a Mylink to pre2013. I did it with my previous 2012 2SS and I think it was around $1500.

If that's not an issue then check that one out because the price is excellentl

Get a ZL1 but keep looking. I also think that you'll need to put out some extra coin to get one with lower milage. Recaros are a must in these beasts. This option will cost you.
