Rode in a ZL1 1LE today.

I am getting ready to order a ZL1 1LE and thought it would be prudent to go for a ride in one, to see what I thought. I had never sat in a 5th or 6th Gen until today. I didn’t think the ride was any worse than my Third and Fourth Gens. There was a lot of road noise from the tires on rough asphalt roads. I didn’t mind the visibility as it was better than I expected. The biggest thing was getting in and out. I’m 6’1” and 62 years old. Entry/exit will take a little getting used to🤓

ZLE seats and wide side skirts make in/out.. a workout.

Rough ride is mostly result of shocks, stiff springs and hella stiff sidewall on 3R tires.

Still.. great bang for the buck.

26,000 miles n counting!

Isnt a good “fix” for some the ride switching out to those Michelin tires ?

Have your buddy hit an expansion joint or pothole. See how much air you catch. Always a pucker factor the first time you do it. After that it’s kind of fun, but you worry if you broke something on the car. Other than that, love mine. It’s incredible on the track.

Leonard, do you happen to know which tires were on the ZLE you rode in? I also rode in a ZLE (thanks Serper!!!) before pulling the trigger on one, and it was more than fine for me, but to be fair that was on 4S tires, which I've heard many times improve the ride quality a fair bit. I'm curious how it'll be with the OEM GY3R when I finally pick it up!

You are welcome!

It really comes down to the roads you are on and how bad they are. most of the time, the ride is not an issue at all. sometimes when the road gets really bad, i think... yea this thing is stiff!

no regrets, except for sometimes I wish I had gt3 money

It was the original Goodyear tires. It was stiff, but not bone jarring like I expected after reading comments about the ride quality. I won’t put many miles on mine. The occasional ride for ice cream, Sunday afternoon rides, etc. There are no tracks around me, so it won’t be raced.

Clearly your choice but if you’re not going to track it maybe consider the standard ZL1. You’ll get every bit as much from it as you would a ZLE.

I feel the Rapid Blue needs the additional black trim of the ZLE, so that is part of it. I also prefer the top trim level when I buy vehicles and the ZLE is definitely it.

I agree with the additional black. The ZLE package isn’t trim though, it’s performance, more specifically track performance.

I hear you but in this particular case the the 1LE is a track package, which sounds like you will not make use of. This is not a like a pickup truck where you go for the High Country just because it is the top trim. The ZLE package is pretty hard core and different than the SS 1LE package. The suspension and tires are specific for the race track. The standard ZL1 has the same FE4 suspension as the SS 1LE, which is already hard core for the street.

Some folks wrap the hood of the standard ZL1 and add the black mirror caps and rear wing if you just want the look.

Thanks for your input! I do understand what you’re saying, but I want the ZLE.

Concur 100%.......it all depends on the roads.......I have a lot of really nice smooth roads and the car is just a dream. Then I hit some bad sections and holy lord it reminds you how stiff it is. But the car is really amazing. An absolute beast of a car. Wicked fast!
