Who Rebuilds Brake Calibers???

As we are nearing Road Racing season down here is TEXAS I was wondering who has had a good first hand experience with someone who rebuilds calibers. There is NOTHING wrong with mine currently (ZL1 1LE) but I think it is a good idea to replace the piston seals and possible upgrade the brake pistons themselves if that option is available.

I know I got them hot enough this season to turn my pretty SILVER calibers into a GOLD color caliber (LOL). I just purchased some titanium backing plates which I will use on the freshly rebuilt setup.

I typically use DTC70 and DTC60 pads with slicks when racing and the stock brembo pads when I am not.

THANKS!!!

In for info on cadence of needing to rebuild.
However I think Racingbrake.com has new high temp seals and better pistons for our calipers. Worth a look.

I’ve rebuilt several set for my 5th Gen 6 piston an my C7 GS with 6 piston fairly easy task but not worth paying someone else a shit load of money to do. Racing brake does have vented caliper pistons and hot temp seals an dust boots, kinda spendy though for sure.

FYI, it's caliper not caliber. Anyways, PITA but not hard to get pistons out. For your J6H ZL1 fronts: just order two of 19207043 and two of 19207044. That will get you the J57 CCB caliper's vented pistons, the pressure seals, and the dust seals. The Gen 6 ZL1 front has the same size pistons including height as the front of the C6 / C7 / Z28 CCB calipers but those are vented vs. solid. Dust and piston seals are common.

I have done plenty for me and buddies. Busy this time of year, but, will be glad to give you some pointers. I've seen you car in DogHouse getting work, so, you might get a quote from Adam / Tim. With the pistons and seals out, you could have calipers re-painted or powder coated at that time.

OK great thanks for the GM part numbers. I noticed that racingbrake.com has STAINLESS steel pistons in their rebuild kit but its about $615.00 with hi temp boots part number BZ-61BSP.

I know there's a good thread on here some where, can't seem to find it. They compare solid with vented pistons and also shows how he did the install. I believe it was all oem gm (Brembo) parts.

Found it

I wish there was a tool to install the dust boots though.

Are they that hard to push in?

I rebuilt my SS 1LE fronts (my first time) and it wasn't too difficult. I do have some tips for you if you do your own. Having the service manual pages and this web page helped https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showt...=571640&page=6. Also got advice from RUQWIKR. Rebuilt using the GM vented pistons and seals, but used RB high temp dust boots. Results are great so far after 2 days at COTA and 2 days on the 3.1 using DTC60s. Don't need the Ti shims anymore either.

If you can replace your own rotors you can rebuild your calipers. It's a fairly straight forward and easy process. Tons of videos on YouTube showing you how to do it. Doesn't have to be Camaro Brembo. All Brembos are pretty much the same steps. Take your time and save yourself some money.

They can be a bit of a pain. Especially OEM ones.

So what's the consensus here I looked up prices to compare oem to racingbrake.com.

OEM.
2- 19207043 ($180 each)
2- 19207044 ($26 each)
Total $412

RACINGBRAKE.COM

Rebuild kit with temp seal $612

So the oem kit are I believe stainless and vented with normal seals. As the Racingbrake kit are stainless not vented and you can get high temp seals.
I'm I correct, which is the better option?
Also the racingbrake pistons look hollow compared to the oem.

Well that all sounds right to me. I would THINK that the OEM vented pistons would maybe not get as hot as the non-vented RB piston. RB has the better hi temp seal so maybe all OEM except for the seals??? If you are going to use aftermarket pads like DTC60 or DTC70's I would think you would want also to use titanium backing plates at least on the FRONTS.
