I just mounted my old school opener on the bottom of the dash (there's a great flat area) above my right leg with some Velcro. Out of sight and an easy reach.

I've been looking into this while I wait for my car to get built. If you can handle some basic wiring, I think it's a pretty easy job.

Homelink consoles from the 16-18 cars are around $50 on eBay. The major difference is that the new console has the OnStar button where the Homelink used to be. If you don't care about Onstar, it should be pretty straightforward to disconnect those buttons and just swap the consoles over - the only thing you should need to add is a short harness to power the Homelink.

The Homelink connector is GM part #19300600. It's obnoxiously expensive ($40) but I suspect can be found much cheaper if you ask some junkyard sellers to cut it off for you. I attached an image of what it looks like. The pinout is:

1 - Battery +
2 - Backlight
3 - Not used
4 - Ground

Pretty simple. Those could be spliced into the connector for the sunroof or overhead light buttons.

EDIT: Looks like the ACDelco PT3025 might be the same connector. If so that's $12 on Amazon. So for ~$65 and a half hour of tinkering you should be able to retrofit a factory Homelink.

I recently added the garage door opener to my eu spec 2ss which also does not have any wiring. Post as follows containing details of how I addressed the wiring.

Adding homelink/garage door opener
I added the garage door opener to my eu spec 2017 convertible today. Though the eu cars have a very high spec (2ss with npp and mrc as options, which mine has) they don't have the garage door opener. Some devices have different frequencies in Europe but a lot run on 433mhz which the homelink system runs on. I'm using it to control my diy "mild to wild" controller for my npp but it will also work to open gates and doors.

I bought an overhead console from a coupe which came with the homelink module and buttons, didn't buy the expensive harness from gen5diy and instead soldered onto the pins of the module, used my own connector inline with where i tapped the wires (so i can swap out the module if needed).

I've read guides about using the passenger airbag light as power but I tapped into the mirror harness for power and ground and tge convertible top switch for illumination and dimming control. The mirror seems to have RAP (retained accessory power) so it works with the ignition on but also for some time after the ignition has been switched off.

If anyone has any questions about the wiring, happy to help

Thanks all. I'll look into these suggestions once I get my car. It is being picked up from a Michigan dealer on 3/4 and trucked to Long Island NY. I should have it next week!!!

Not quite finished -- I intend to install it in the headliner (make it look OEM).

No Homelink for Garage Door on 2020

I do like that model. Just not enthusiastic about ripping the headliner apart to run the wiring. Let me know how you make out. Pics of the install process would be nice.

Universal homelink from Amazon. Little nervous cutting into my upper console and itt came out pretty good I think. Also used the Gen5Diy’s extra power supply from my radar detector kit to power it.

Definitely looks factory. Please provide install details.

How did you remove the overhead cover?
What did you use to make the cutout?
How did you wire it?

Thanks

Removed the overhead console using plastic trim tools. There are 3 tabs one in the center (back side of console) and one on each side that you can see in the picture above. They don't give much slack in the wires so disconnecting all the harnesses was a bit of pain especially the one closest to the windshield.

Once you have it out you will notice more tabs that allow you to separate the the console into two pieces which makes accessing the area to cut a little easier.

I used a Dremel tool to cut the hole and also the piece in this picture to make it fit. The HomeLink part fits exactly in the compartment shown after trimming this piece. I then marked the edge with the harness as a reference point when it was removed. then placed the button piece upside down so I could mark the tab location then using the supplied foam gasket/template I traced out the hole and cut it out.

The kit I got came with multiple foam gaskets which was good cause I ended up doubling them up so it was a nice tight fit as with just one there was a little gap between the button housing and the console.

I wired it up using the Extra power lead on the radar detector harness kit I purchased from Gen5Diy. It is using ignition power so the car does need to be running for it to work.

Let me know if you have any other questions as I'm always happy to help. Just which I would have taken more pictures of the hole I cut as well but I had already installed once i thought about taking pictures.
