Seats are the heaviest bits. Then carpets and all plastic and fiber panels throughout. Then wheels and brakes.

Watch the COPO build video and do what they do, if you are serious about bigtime weight reduction. But that's probably beyond what most would be willing to do with a daily driver.

Keep in mind, any weight-saving by removing the suitcase muffler, would likely be offset by the rear bumper, which inadvertently becomes a parachute at higher speeds without it.

What exactly do you consider high speeds? My LT1 is not any slower after removing the factory suitcase up to 150 mph.

That's because it's electronically limited. I just takes you longer to get there now...

It definitely does not seem that way. I have raced before and after the suitcase delete with other friends cars, digs and rolls, and the results have been identical. No one has modded either as we are all under warranty. The only way I can see the rear bumper parachute effect you described without the factory suitcase in place is if you are trying to top out the car (if the speed limiter were to be removed) or on the highly unlikely chance that I was racing to 150 mph+ speeds AND fighting a 40 mph head on wind. I can definitely see a parachuting effect without the factory suitcase in those most extreme of situations as just previously mentioned.

On a road course, one can just follow a car without the stock muffler. At the end of the longest straights, the bumper cover starts to vibrate, and balloon a bit. That's drag. Some have even built a plate to prevent it, post removal. If you're after every bit of weight saving, and gone so far as removing small plastic interior pieces, I'd think this would make a bigger difference than that. That's all I'm saying...

Agreed! I have seen this happen at COTA and VIR. I would strongly suggest folks leave the stock suitcase mufflers on.

With regard to weight savings - I suggest lighter front seats + rear seat delete.

The plate sounds like a good idea, I don't road course, just friendly Mexico runs and the occasional 1/8th or 1/4 mile event. I was thinking of eventually throwing the factory suitcase back on when the warranty expires so I can throw some catless long tube headers on the car. Truthfully, I removed the suitcase because axlebacks and catbacks are outrageously priced for this car compared to every performance car I have had. A $100 muffler delete and a 35 lbs weight reduction was a no-brainer. For my uses, I have not experienced any adverse effects.
