It is 7.850 for sure. I decided to go the cam only route, after discussing what I wanted out the car with the shop owner, he thought changing the stock heads would be pointless and extra cash wasted for what I am trying to achieve.

Well it's gonna make power for sure either way. The fact that the heads would be in your hands and not address a few simple details is pure misinformation by the shop owner and here's the reasons why;
Even though the LT1 engine makes decent hp from a stock standpoint, the cylinder heads leave ALOT to be desired. First example would be the intake port. It's a 297cc port that "only" flows roughly 305cfm. From a V.E. standpoint, this may be the worst since the LS based engine came on the seen. I won't even get into how wacky the exhaust port is. Point is, I would take a great set of heads over cubic inches every day of the week. Nascar engines make 800hp while sporting only 358ci. This engine can also be your daily driver. I know we all have budget windows we have to stay in but I simply could not miss the opportunity to work those heads to some degree. Especially when they're being removed anyway. It's like baking a cake and not putting icing on it...

My budget won't allow for the heads I originally had 5500 to do everything. I am coming out total around 4200 for everything. I'd rather keep that extra money than to purchase heads.

Did the beer come with the build? I need to order from where you're ordering.. LOL

I'm curious to see your gains. I'm doing basically the same with a little different cam (Comp Cam Custom VVT grind - 224/237 .585/.579 116), but replace the intake manifold with ported heads on mine. Also staying pump gas with 93 octane in mine. Should have it back by next Wednesday.

It'll be a good fair comparison between going heads or intake manifold I think.

You don't need to buy new heads, just get someone to spend a couple hours working on them.

You have allowed lots of new fresh in and given it the chance to leave equally as fast with the headers......leaving the heads completely stock would be a bottle neck to the $4200 you did spend.

Two questions here.

Is there a budget $750-$900 option to CNC our current heads yet?

Also, the cam will reduce dynamic compression, are we still expecting the same hp gains from e85 as we see on a stock cam car?

1) Typically a race valve job, tearing the heads down and installing the new springs should run in the $500-$600 range ,providing the spring set doesn't need balancing. For another $500 or so you could get them to smooth out that left hand turn in the exhaust port. You can leave that MONSTER intake port well enough alone. It's gonna pick up some air speed from the valve job anyway....
2) No need to worry about compression ratio. There's no VVT cam that would adversely affect anything to the point where the CR needs to be raised, i.e., milling the heads...

Does that much smaller lift allow the use of the factory rollers?
