NPP vs aftermarket

Hey guys,

Looking to upgrade my exhaust (yes I know, it’s mainly for sound and minimal horsepower gains) and I’m looking for something a bit louder and more aggressive than the NPP system my 19 SS 1LE came with.

I’m deciding between the following:
- corsa xtreme axleback (their cat back removes the secondary cars and that’s not something I want to do right now)
- borla atak cat back (with NPP, but will most never have it in stealth)
- awe touring non resonated catback.

Will any of these be significantly louder than stock? I’m leaning towards the corsa, but if I wanted a catback while keeping the secondary cats, I will probably need to order a borla midpipe and install the corsa axleback to it.

If you had to choose, which would you get?

Yes they will all be louder than stock. I chose the AWE because I think it sounds the best.

I'd look into mbrp as well, also go with full cat back for improved dyno results if you care for the gain

I'm gonna get a Borla ATAK system one of these days...Definitely want to keep the NPP-ability.

I havn't heard a system your that sounds significantly better than NPP. NPP is a bit raspier than I like, but so are most of the after markets setups. I think the only way to get rid of rasp is to go to an older type fiber packed muffler but they just burn themselves out over time.

I would really like to do this, but not sure if there is an easy way to get the stock NPP open and pack it then weld it back without a hack job. To me the corvette NPP sounds so much better and refined, the stock camaro NPP just sounds obnoxiously loud, raspy, fartty, and lifted truck straight pipe sounding. From looking at people cutting open the NPP on the corvette, it looks like there is packing (fiberglass?) in the one smaller chamber.

I've heard the packing keeps the rasp down, but I've also heard a lot of other things that seem like its just something someone heard someone else say so they are repeating it. Not trying to call anyone out, but its hard to quantify "rasp".

So far I am much happier with the Flowmaster NPP over the stock NPP. Not raspy and deep tone.

How much would you rate noise increase, especially in NPP your mode vs flowmaster tour mode?

The NPP sounds very good to me especially when you ready in in neutral. However once you go over about 3/4 throttle into high rpms it just sounds like a straight pipe crappy sounding truck, that some kid just cut off the mufflers and cats haha

can't wait to get my NPP off in the Spring. Sound aside the car deserves to breathe much better than the exhaust it left the factory with

I haven't got a chance to drive it with the weather so I can't comment on in car volume. Outside the FM is louder in stealth but not over the top. With the Valves open both are loud but the FM sounds more controlled and less raspy. You do get pops and burbles on decel. I have videos of the stock NPP and cat deletes along with the FM with cat deletes I could link if you want to hear. The only thing is the FM video was taken inside the shop with the doors down so there is a echo. I will make another short video with overhead door open so there is no echo. Video also doesn't capture the depth of the FM sound very well.

I am running the Billy Boat Fusion CatBack setup and love the way it sounds. Nice and deep, not raspy and retains NPP function. I also have a BB Fusion setup on my C7 Z06. I am surprised you don't hear too much about them in the Gen. 6 world.....they have a nice following in the corvette community. Good quality exhaust, in my opinion.

I believe the few that did get the Billy Boat had issues with it. That being said my Brother has BB on his C7Z and it sounds awesome but he really likes the sound of the Flowmaster NPP on my car as well.

B&B has been making NPP systems for about a decade now so one could say they have perfected the art. It is definitely a system to look at if you would like to retain your NPP. Also, take a look at the Stainless Works, Hooker and Flowmaster systems. They all have excellent reviews. When you guys are ready to order stop by our site and use code CAMARO6 to save some cash, big savings for forum members.
