Do Catch Cans Work? Check My Video

Do you think catch cans really work? I have had them on 2 5th and one 6th gen Camaro thus far and just bought one for my 2017 1le which I haven't picked up yet.

Anyway, I recorded the video of my "catch" before I sold my Camaro and this video tells it all:

Let me know what you think.

NOTE: I tried to upload this video directly from my computer, but despite my efforts I couldn't because I didn't have a "token" ????

The dispute is never if catch cans work. It's if they are needed.

And that answer is not the same one even within a single engine trim. It must be considered on an individual basis. Will it hurt if you do it anyway? No. Unless you are changing other things like adding additional vacuum.

Man, you are right. Shiny aluminum wheels now look too blingy to me. They might as well have spinners on them. My 1le has awesome nearly black wheels...I don't know what they call the color, but I like them.

I had a Mishimoto & after 1000 miles it was full. I'm not one to empty that thing every 500 miles. Also after the 1000 miles I took off the TB & the inside of the intake was coated with oil. Sold it & staying stock, GM engineered & tested it that way so I don't see it hurting anything.

Several have asked for a comparison of same car model, same engine, and similar miles with a can on from day one and one without.

Here are pictures of a car that the owner installed the E2-X system the week he bought his new Camaro.

This car now has 51,000 miles on it and these were just taken. As you can see, minimal coking as we stop app. 95% of all the oil and other gunk. Here is the SAME make/model/year (2014, first car is a 2015) and it has 43,000 miles and NO catchcan.

Then we look at the other advantages. Fuel economy will increase by 8-10% on average due to reduced knock retard, oil remains cleaner longer as were evacuating most of the contaminants before they can settle and mix with the oil, and of course a slight power improvement also due to KR reduction

I don't think the engine was engineered to burn oil in any amount, but then, I'm not an engineer. If it doesn't HURT anything why not err on the safe side and buy one. Cost is minimal and as some have said, there are performance improvements to be had.

Do they work??? Yes. Are they necessary??? Absolutely not. You wont find an engine failure or an engine thats down on power due to the small amount of oil that an engine consumes over its life. Its a placebo. If you think for one minute that GM engine design and engineers didn't plan for a nominal amount of oil consumption, then you are insane. Hell Dodge calls a quart every few months, NORMAL. Enjoy your catch cans, but they are not necessary in any way shape or form.

The anti's are the guys that have had these cars for years, and hundreds of thousands of miles without a catch can, or an engine failure. Thats your proof. If engines were falling like flies, then it would be something that would end up on the car from the factory, or after a big recall ill bet. The percentage of cars that are actually using a catch can vs not is probably less than 1% produced.

I sure agree with you. I have heard that higher horse powered heavily bolted on Camaros like your's benefit more so than bone stock by the use of a catch can. Obviously, you saw something of value in hanging one on your Camaro according to your signature, so, if it's good enough for you, it's good enough for me! lol...I bet your car is a blast to drive.
