I set my mirrors properly, there are no appreciable blind spots. When someone complains about Camaro visibility, my first thought is how their mirrors are set up.

Yet, there was one time when the system did save the day for me. Dude changed into the lane next to mine from the left, then accelerated, and he was neither in the rearview mirror nor (yet) in the driver side mirror. He didn't use his turn signal, of course. At around the same time I wanted to switch lanes to the left and only noticed his car because the lane change alert LED was flashing, which made me look sideways and back. Yeah, I should've anticipated this move and waited a little longer, but I didn't.

So there are some edge cases, plus we all make mistakes at times. This is how redundancy (mirror setting, looking sideways, blind spot monitoring) can be a good thing.

BTW my blind spot monitoring works fine in the rain, too, there were a few times I got caught in it or simply couldn't avoid the downpour.
