I like both the GMC tailgate and the new RAM tailgate. I'd be happy with either. I can see advantages to both.

I have read that the RAM gate has a 2,000 lb capacity versus 395lb for the GMC....not sure if that's true or not. I'm wondering if GMC and RAM and using different metrics, like the 2,000 lb figure is when evenly distributed, while the GMC 395 lb figure is just a single point of contact on the bed? Who knows.

The step on the GMC is rated for 375~395lbs of weight, the tailgate carries a very similar overall capacity to any other Ford or Ram tailgate.

I think the MultiPro gate looks just a bit better integrated. The 60/40 split of the Ram's is an OCD nightmare.

I didn't even notice that it wasn't 50-50. I did notice that the box on the Ram looks pretty narrow on the inside.

Has FCA integrated all of the bedsides into the RamBox storage bins?

I'm not OCD so I would take the new Ram for the win.

Tailgates seem a lot more elaborate, and likely very expensive to replace....Have they done anything to make them less likely to be stolen? A new design will likely have very limited availability for factory built replacements, thus creating a lucrative market for stolen tailgates as replacements....Hopefully they have made them more theft resistant somehow.

They should all be locking with the doors by now. It’s a joke that since they ran a harness in there they didn’t add power locks

My 2017 2500HD has a power locking tailgate. It makes an obnoxious "thunk" every time the doors are locked/unlocked. I'm happy just to have the slow lowering gate that mine does. I don't need a gimmick of a tail gate that turns into steps.

I don’t care about the tailgate but the no 6.2 option doesn’t make any sense.

These "fancy" tailgates are options...not standard except on the highest trim trucks.

Don't like them, get the regular tailgate.

My 17 Denali has the locking and "thunking" tailgate - works just fine and am quite happy with it. Better than obnoxious horns that let everyone know you just used your remote lock function.

I think you can normally change that to either flashing the headlights or nothing at all if you don't like it.
