Is it possible to install apps by USB?

Hello everyone,

I live in Europe. Overhere we have the GM appstore as app on the MyLink stereo systems, but unfortunately the appstore does not open up.

According to GM Europe, the appstore is not available in Europe.

Is it possible to install apps by USB? Do Android apps work?

Thank you very much.

There are barely any apps available, at least in Canada: Glypse, Weather and My Chevrolet. Nothing that you would use anyway.
If you want apps, install them on your phone and connect via Android Auto or CarPlay.

Thanks for the information.

I don't want to hassle to connect my phone by a wire to my car everytime I drive. I prefer to leave my phone in my pocket.

But you are right...no important app I'm missing.

You don't have to take out your phone, there is a way to do wireless Android auto by using a slave device. For CarPlay there is a dedicated adaptor available that does it wirelessly. Google for more info

Not sure if there are any apps in particular I would use when driving. Maybe Spotify but I don't have a subscription with them.

It seems like the infotainment is running on a customized Android system but I don't think you could just throw any apps on it and expect it to work. I would think the apps have to be optimized for the screen size.

I would like to use Glympse and the weather app.

Unfortunately it is not possible to send my position though WhatsApp when using Android Auto.

I tried and WhatsApp sends a message with the words "my position".

@Corbu
I know of the Android Auto wireless project. I guess I will try this method one day.
