Why would you go from a traditional rifle to an AR15...it would be such a different style gun IMO

I have a couple of AR-15's Can't shoot them at the indoor so I picked up a Smith and Wesson AR-15 22. Now I can shoot cheap and at the indoor range.
It's more than your budget. I like the fact that I can shoot cheap. I added a cheap red/green dot bushnell sight and it's a blast. Robin

AR-15 is an investment you can shoot. You will always be able to get your money out of them if you ever have to part with it. JMO.

The Marlin will generally be a little more accurate right out of the box but is a bit longer and a bit heavier. There is also less customization you can do to it and no magazine changes can be made due to the tubular magazine. The Ruger will be a little less accurate out of the box, but can be modded in just about anyway you can imagine. There are probably as many mods for a 10/22 as there are for a small block 350 to give you an idea. There is also the possibility of adding 20, 30, and even higher capacity magazines. Shooting fundamentals are shooting fundamentals. BRAS. Breath, Relax, Aim, Squeeze

I guess I thought when he meant he wanted to start shooting, he was talking more so about scoped rifles, distance, and precision more so than peppering a steel plate at various distances.

All of which still require the basics of breath control, aim and trigger technique. To go super-precise long range, you have to step into the crazy world of learning to regulate your heartbeat and timing shots between beats.

Go straight to the .223. I wouldn't bother with the .22. I have a 700 Police in .223, it is awesome.
i have a 10/22. Look to spend around 500 or so to get one all decked out with bull barrell, trigger, etc. |

I think I'm going to get the Marlin. It's cheaper, more accurate (stock/see point 3), and I don't plan on doing much customization on the .22LR. I'd rather have 2 rifles of different calibers, than one really tricked .22 Quote:

Guys just got back from the store with one VERY nice Marlin 60 SS.
The Marlin felt much better (to me) in the hand than the Ruger... and just seemed to be weighted right. I know some people didn't like the Gray laminated finish from the pictures on their site, but in person the gun looks SHARP with the stainless steel and woodwork. Looks like much more of a gun than the other Marlin 60's imo. Thanks for the input guys. |

I have shot the Ruger for years. Love that gun. Good for target practice. Beats an Airsoft for target work.
