Age Gap - And -When to draw the line.

Friend of mine was asking for my 0.02 on the subject. Thus I knew immdiately it would be a great OT Discussion

Male, Age 25, Employed, No problem picking up women (his own age), Several relationships, Outgoing, Clubbing, Down to earth

Female, Age 16, High school, Employed, Cool person, Wise beyond their years, old soul in a young body, mature, outgoing, lots of fun.

Background: They met, hit it off good, guy was lied to by friends of 16 year old, feelings were established, now the truth is out and established.

That is the description givin to me by my friend. I personally think that the age gap is to wild, and for functionality in the relationship its to difficult. If I was a parent, and found out about the *above* and it was my daughter, I'd forbid it.

However playing the roll of devil's advocate, in no way if these two people get together does it affect me so i suppose if their happy then so be it.. But still in the end I say No.

Discuss.

16 is a very vulnerable age for a young woman, especially when influenced by a much older man. "Wise beyond her years" may certainly be true, but it does not make up for life experience in situations such as this. I'd say give it another couple yeas, at least till she gets out of HS.

No. Anyone under 18 shouldn't be in a serious relationship yet. The guy knows what he wants and she doesn't. Plus she still has to figure out who her friends really are if they're lying to people about it.

Did the girl know friends lied to the guy?

You're not ready for anything but driving at 16.

Hell you dont even know who you are at 16. Compare my 16 year old self to now (24, will be 25 May 11th) and it is night and day.

No bueno

I haven't been provided with the whole situation, but from what i understand he was lied to, they spent time together, shit happened and they fooled around. She told him the truth, or so i have been told

Either way, I personally dont think it should go on.
I spoke to a lady friend of mine to get her take on the situation and she was all about it, claiming if they are happy bla bla bal

I was just like bleh - no go imo.

Benny Mardones sings it best. Try searching YouTube for "Into the night". I have not looked but I bet it it there.

He's 25 and she's 16...NO!!! Even if she was 18, the 7 year difference then would still be too much with her being so young! As people get older the age difference isn't as big of a deal, because maturity carries alot more weight at that point. BUT NO 16 year old GIRL need to be involved with a MAN!!! And to be honest, he ought to know better, because it just isn't fair to that girl!!!

Not sure what the laws are where your friend lives, but in IL he could be arrested for "fooling around" with her because of her age. Not a good idea for many reasons.

Legal ramifications aside, I think these comments nailed it. No matter how it's sliced and diced... there's a world of differance between 16 and 25. Those differances are too great for anything more than a short term novelty.

As my hubby says... 16 will get you 20.

Besides that, she might SEEM to be mature for her age, but in reality she's just practicing. Same concept as puppy love, basically. She can't actually be as mature as she seems until she experiences the things that make us all grow up. Don't get me wrong, she might be more mature than her peers, but that's not saying a lot considering the maturity level of most 16 yr olds.

Lastly, you should ask your friend how he would feel if some guy was fooling around with his 16 yr old kid sister/neice/daughter. I bet he would see the situation differently.

Edit: One last thing...

You said... "from what i understand he was lied to, they spent time together, shit happened and they fooled around. She told him the truth, or so i have been told"

If she waited til AFTER they fooled around to tell him she's 16 that can only mean 1 thing:

That little girl is T-R-O-U-B-L-E with a capital T and he should avoid her like the plague.

if your friend has to ask you might want to rethink the friendship

The friend asking me about this isn't the 25 year old, its someone at his work.
He was asking me because I usually have very outside the box theories, but even with this..

Jesus. I don't think even a politician could twist this into being a good thing or even a lawyer... lol
