Hood Extractor Support Panel Removal?

Has anyone removed the panel under the hood extractor and left it off, at least semi-permanently? That metal panel that has to be trimmed for some blowers/modifications? I think it's the same panel that has the openings for the hood extractor, too. I'm not talking about the CF-extractor itself, but the panel between it and the actual hood panel.

I don't drive in the rain or inclimate weather, and don't wash the car with water much, so I don't have much need to protect the engine compartment like the factory does from water intrusion. I'm wondering if it's possible to remove that panel, or maybe trim some away, to allow for more air to pass through the actual hood extractor opening for better cooling. Or - maybe just trimming it away enough for more air to pass?

Has anyone done this, given it much thought, or have comments that I'm not thinking of? Is this a good idea? Would it even matter that much?

I removed the rain guard piece, but not the full section. I'm guessing it helps support the heat extractor and also provide some heat shielding?

Yes it is bolted to the extractor and supports it. If you remove the rain guard you will see the bolts. I just replaced mine with carbon fiber.

DAMN!!! That's NICE!!! Is that Metcaf's car?! Those are some NICE parts for not crazy prices.

I was wondering if trimming the opening larger would help with extracting more heat, so if I were wrong, I didn't want to waste too much money on a replacement to put it back to stock. I know GM engineered it the way they did for a reason, but for the primary one I would guess would not really apply to me, so I'm just toying with the idea.

Hard to tell by the pictures. It appears to have the rain protection piece on it. Can that be left off and if yes how does it look(is it a finished look)? I don't drive with my rain protector on the car and prefer not to put it back.

Yes, the rain protector comes off just like OEM. Looking at the pic on the left side of the cover is where this cover is different. The oem if you look at yours has an opening my goesn't. It only funnels water from above to the right side opening. It is a finished look underneath without the cover on, if I remember correctly. If I take it off in the next few days, I'll take a pic and post it.

P.S. Now I am doubting myself on the finish underneath, will let you know.

Took some pics of the rain cover off. Note the cover only has an opening on one end, don't
know why. Water stays in the one side without a drain hole but, empty when you raise the hood. As you can see the liner is finished under the cap. You can see the bolts holding the outside cap. The install is very easy, the oem liner has a seal type gasket that you will need to pry a little but, comes off with liner. Take your time and it's about 1.5 hrs.

Thanks for the update. I think I may leave it off to get more air passing through. Is there enough material to cut a matching opening on the other side? Ideal would be to open it up the opening on both sides with the cover in place to hide the bolt holes. I may ask if they offer the removable cover separately and have a shop open the hole area
