Subarus are the preferred vehicle of lesbians. Pay in cash and the whole credit check event goes away.
In other news: The new #1 for dangerous drivers goes to females driving Jettas. Consider yourself warned.

Had something similar at a few Harley dealerships earlier this month. Long story short, they will not give you a price until you basically commit to buy.
First thing they want to know is what I want my payment to be..... I tell them I have 10K to put down, and not too concerned about the monthly payment. I bought but bought from out of state. Bike should be here next week.

dealers get a kickback from finance companies. I had this explained to me by salesman who pressed that I finance with them and then pay it off in a month after they get their kickback

When I worked at a small independent dealer, we would charge $15 application fee to everyone who wanted to "run my credit and see what you can do." Not a single one of those people purchased a car in the 2 years that I was there. We didn't charge anything people we realized are actual customers. |

That is awesome OP. I had a similar experience many years ago when looking for a Toyota truck. They insisted I give something to "show I was serious". I said here, take my watch, now get me a price. Twice the salesman returns with numbers that I don't agree too. So I asked for my watch back so I could leave. Then all of a sudden another gentleman appears "wanting to discuss what it would take". I said I would take my watch back. He apparently did not want to hear that until I became loud enough the whole dealership heard me.
On the way out, there was A LOT of profanity being thrown out to customers looking and waiting and even coming in the doors. I did get my watch back (as it truly had zero value) and my Truck, but from another dealer). I still get entertained when I think back to that day. |

That dealer is an idiot: They should ask for $30,000 deposit to run your credit, so if your credit fizzles out with a 390, you still get to buy a car!

But seriously... hell yes, good story, my reaction would have been exactly the same as yours!
(I have lost my shit at dealerships a couple of times... most of the time, it's a professional business experience... uneventful, and often ends with me buying a car. But when somebody gets stupid with me, all hell is positively going to break loose!) |

Based on how you left, I would venture to guess that there was more to the initial part of the story as well. As someone else stated up above, "When two people with attitudes collide... things happen."

Never had a bad dealership experience. Never been asked for cash for a credit check. My life is boring.
