option 2 or option 3 a 2ss 1le with or without a sunroof. I myself prefer no sunroof in a car I'm gonna drive spirited.

If you’re even considering a Mustang go rent a Mustang and a Camaro first. I travel a lot and have rented all the pony cars; the 4 cylinders, the 6 cylinders, and the 8 cylinders. Dodge flat out sucks in handling, power, and interior design. They are the worst. Mustang sucks on handling, their power is not great, and their algorithm for shifting is pitiful. My personal cars are all manuals so if you do a manual then you don’t have to worry about the computer controlling the shifts obviously, rentals don’t come in manuals. Camaro blows them both away in power and handling and Chevrolet has their shift algorithm down, levels above the other two. Now, the interior on a base low-level Camaro is pretty bad. Mustang has Chevrolet beat there. If you do the higher trim package then I think Camaro wins it back. The Camaro Recaro seats are nice, which is standard in the ZL1 and SS 1LE’s. I rented a Hendrick ZL1, 750hp, and it will make the SS’s feel slow, video on my YouTube page. So do the ZL1. I sent two of my cars off to Kateck to put them over 500rwhp, the 750hp spoiled me.

However - I'll never track the car. I'll never use what the 1LE package offers. I'll never use what the ZL1 offers either - but it's an "end of an era" super-charged Iconic American Sports Car. |

Why not a 2SS 1LE. probably would be a better road car as you dont really need the 650hp for just cruising the streets. But if you wanted it go for it

I don’t ever plan on tracking my 1LE and its amazing on the road. I have also owned a ZL1 and wish I hadn’t sold it . 1LE will get the price tag down nicely for the performance. If you can swing the Z get it

I have a 2Ss with a lot of options. For the street it has plenty of HP, handles great, and sounds great. I was debating between the SS and the ZL1 myself. I’m never going to track the car and to me I’d never be able to really enjoy the ZL1 HP around town or even on a highway trip so I went with the SS. Buy what you think you will enjoy the most.

Polling my family, they opt for the convertible 2ss, granted its still more car than I'll use. But knowing that the Camaro is gone forever, ZL1 looms pretty large. |

Great! I'm interested in knowing what swayed you to 1LE when you didn't plan on tracking? On the convertible, I've optioned the Magnetic Ride Control and Adaptive Exhaust. I think they have similar cooling and brakes? 1LE has ELSD and the convertible has simpler LSD. 1LE has wider wheels for sure but could swap aftermarket.

I am on my third convertible. Had a hardtop G37, Mustang GT/CS and now the SS convertible.
Mine is garaged kept so figure it will last a long time. I would go for the ZL1 convertible….For me, wanted to keep it affordable so really happy with the 1SS and have my other convertible next to it being my Yamaha SX190. |

Since you are gravitating towards a 2SS, let me tell you it's an amazing car, especially with MRC and the dual mode exhaust—not as good as a ZL1, but you always have the option of modding the car, just check my signature, I have an ultimate (meaning powerful, yet still actually usable on the street) 2SS build.

If answers are limited to the two you offered then I would choose the ZL1 because I wouldn't mind 650HP, and wind/sun in my face on the highway gets old after a while. If you like open-air cruising then consider a ZL1 convertible and skimp on a few options.
I too wanted a Vette, so I bought a C5 and a nicely equipped LT1. I choose the LT1 because, like yourself, I'm not tracking the car and it comes with all-seasons that are more suitable for my travels. I had no interest in paying for any aesthetic packages or options... Other considerations... Will it be your only car, will you keep an SUV? Is this your "forever car" - will you ever sell it or trade it? Can you buy top-tier and still budget for insurance, maintenance, aftermarket accessories you want - ie; paint-protection film, a roof/port/garage/shed to park it in, under-dash radar detector? Are summer tires appropriate if you'll be driving this all year, potential traveling considered? Sorry to ramble, but, this would be my thought process. I've had track-tuned cars that made my teeth chatter when hitting a bump that felt like a bad marriage after the honeymoon period wore off. Congrats with your future purchase. |
