Royal Purple Oil
Anyone have issues with using Royal Purple oil versus Mobil One in the LT1 motors? TIA.

LOL, used Royal Purple in numerous high output vehicles over the years with zero issues. Engine oil, gearbox, diff, etc were all great. John Lingenfelter used them for years…he knew more about building motors than anyone.

FWIW, I have always used Mobil 1 in my ZL1 and my 2005 GTO. Never had an issue ever. When my GTO was torn down at 30,000 miles for some modifications, the builder and I were extremely impressed how clean the engine was, top to bottom. Zero sludge or oil deposit build ups. I dont think oil brand alone makes a ton of difference personally. But I always believed in sticking to what the folks who designed the car recommended.

Up till the zl1, I used RP oil/diff in all my vehicles. 600hp iroc, bottle fed Hayabusa and my 180k daily avalanche and never had an issue. With the ZL1 I used factory mobil1 until I got to tracking it and now I use amsoil in it. The avalanche still gets RP or mobil 1, just depends which is cheaper at the time.

I use RP HPS in my 2014 F150's 5.0, my 2016 Camaro's LT1, and my 2019 C7Z's LT4. Did so with the first oil change I did for each vehicle. I also use RP fluids in the manual transmissions and the differentials of both cars. Regards, --KLG--

Using RP in my tranny & Procharger. Running Amsoil 5w50 in the engine. I don't think you'll have any problems running RP engine oil, as long as it meets or exceeds Dexos spec if you're running emissions. Boutique oils often have better wear additive packages and base oils, but some aren't as emissions equipment friendly depending on the additives. Some don't get their Dexos and other certifications because of the costs associated with getting the cert, not because the oil isn't good for your engine.
Lake Speed Jr has a ton of great material a lot of the major oil brands, oil myths, and science behind oil. I fell off the Mobile 1 bandwagon a while ago. Used SuperTech almost exclusively for more than a decade on daily drivers to drag track exclusive engines and never had a problem. All of sudden GM & Mobile 1 are in lockstep and it's sacrilege to run anything but what's in the latest & greatest owners manual, like GM's recommendation doesn't come from a place of doing what is financially best for GM, and transmissions that are "fill for life" LOL. Not saying GM ever made that statement.... Ironic that I ended up using Amsoil on this build, but 5w50 was highly recommended to me and I wasn't going to give Mobile 1 another dime, so it was either Castrol or Amsoil. I've never used them before in my life, but so far so good. It's a slap on the wallet, but I'm gonna travel this path until oil analysis shows otherwise. Oil pressure is definitely up, but within tolerance. Katech & Lake both gave it the thumbs up so that's good enough for me, and I'll be providing Lake with the Amsoil data he can do some analysis with.

I used RP in my 500 and 700 in. all-out race motors, which had to be freshened every 20-25 runs, but I now use Mobil 1 Supercar or Driven oils in this LT4.

Decades ago I worked with RP to test their different lines of oils by doing endurance testing at Texas World Speedway in five different 5.0 mustangs. The Mobil1 car didn't finish the test... back in the day the Amsoil, Redline and RP cars were the only ones to go the distance.
Synerlec, the Parent company for RP is the standard OEM lubricant for Ingersol-Rand industrial compressors in the oil-field industry. When I was racing an AMG C63 DTM back in 2012-13, the RP R20 oil was the only lubricant that would allow the car to run more than three laps at NOLA as the Mobil1 fill would go into limp mode by then. At Daytona Speedway, the C63 pulled 181mph on the Oval and ran all three laps of the OLOA event stage without exceeding 230-ish degrees oil temp and 197 degrees water temp! For my ZLE, I use the consumer brand RP 10/30 that can be bought at O'reilly's which is their cheapest oil on the street and then switch to Amsoil 15/50 for the track. During an interview session at Road Atlanta this past week, in the Corvette Corral Tech Session with Mobil1 representatives... I pressed their Rep as to why the recovery rate of their Supercar Oil was so low. He flat-out told me their "additive package" is only rated for one "stress event" and not repeated track use. This is why the Performance Supplement limits use of the 15/50 M1 to four hours of track use before changing!!
