Question about 1LZ/1SS trim

So I’ve been in talks with a dealership about securing a camaro that was just built. It’s a 1ss, gotta have that v8. My question is, what does the 1lz part mean? When I check it’s specs by vin it shows 1lz/1ss. And the pic on the dealers website is some random stock pic that doesn’t have a heat extractor on the hood or the SS badge. The vin is 1G1FF1R71M0137963. My worry is I’m getting some gimped version of an SS. Appreciate any info on this.

I think I saw the “1lz” listed once before and remember it being a for a LT1 convertible, but that was about a year ago when I looked into it.

"1G1FF1R71M0137963" is not a valid VIN number per Repairlink.com.

Per the 2021 Camaro order guide here:
https://www.autoevolution.com/pdf/ne...1le-142495.pdf

"1LZ" appears to be the RPO for the Camaro LT1 coupe, and is not an SS.

I can’t display the window sticker from the dealer web site but it looks like this car is an LT1 model and not a 1SS. The LT1 model does have a 6.2L V8 but it lacks some of the other options on the 1SS model.

https://gmauthority.com/blog/2019/06...and-different/

Arguably the biggest and most notable change for the 2020 Camaro is the addition of the new LT1 trim. Not to be confused with 1LT, LT1 slots between the LT and SS trims, using the body of the LT trim and the naturally-aspirated 6.2L V8 LT1 engine from the Camaro SS.

The new Camaro LT1 will be priced to start at $34,995 (notably lower than the $37,995 starting price of the Camaro SS), and is the long-rumored low-cost V8 model that the sixth-generation Camaro has been missing; many believe that lack of such a model has caused sixth-gen Camaro sales to trail its competition. In any event, the 2020 Camaro LT1 will be available in both Coupe (model 1AJ37) and Convertible (model 1AG67) forms and is assigned trim code 1LZ.

I noticed that they have an extra $2,500 dealer markup listed on their web site. I hope you’re able to buy it without the extra markup.

Here's the car in question: https://www.chevrolet.com/locate-inv...one=8552068129

I would tell the dealer to go screw.

First, they list the car as "recent arrival" but Chevy shows it as in transit. Plus, the "Dealer markup" is shown on the Chevy site as "Pre Incentive Pricing" which seems to imply that GM knows full-well that the dealer is marking the cars up purposefully.

It's useful to understand that ALL of the LT1/SS cars will show as "SS" for classification AND your insurance will reflect it as an SS as well. But, it isn't... The LT1 is the minimum trim you can buy to get the V8 motor. It's a great car if you're very budget-minded and/or want to do a lot of your own mods. But, buying a LT1 trim with added options to try and make it more like an SS is not a wise move financially.

Car prices right now are stupid. Walk away and wait.

Let me try to demystify this confusing trim designation "game" GM are playing.

Every Camaro trim has a "public name" such as 2LT, 1SS or ZL1, the trim name everyone knows. In addition to that, all trims also have a model code (1AH37, 1AK67 etc.) that is not fully unique, as well as an internal RPO code that can be the same as the "public name" for the trim, but they don't always match, for example, the ZL1's internal code is 1SE.

Adding to the nonsense is the fact that the newly introduced LT1 trim was not fully rolled into every process, GM took a shortcut for certain intents and channels (such as car insurance), and still communicate these cars as 1SS, presumably because that's what the LT1 is closest to.

#laziness #sloppiness #theydontcareanymore

This has been the source of neverending confusion, but please find the tables below from the 2023 order book, they indicate how to "map" these names to one another, which should help in understanding what car one's dealing with. You will see that an 1LZ is actually an LT1, not a full 1SS. As I said above, insurance companies lump the LT1 and the 1SS together, they cannot distinguish these trims.l

+1 on that

If you try to differentiate the cars through VIN, you can separate each model (1LT/2LT/2SS/ZL1) but the LT1 will come back as a 1SS due to GM using the same “FE” and “FF” in the VIN for both 1SS and LT1. You can see they did the same for the LT trim cars, lumping 1LS/1LT and 2LT/3LT into the same groups

(This is the 2019 version but applies to current 2023 as well, can’t find any newer version as of now)
