Manual 6 Notice it’s hard to switch gears lately at times

Hi everyone

Notice it’s hard to switch gears lately at times , when I go into a gear it’s not smooth as it was. I feel like it just started a couple weeks ago I feel like first and second is the hardest gear at times .It also popped out of first one time last week when I was going at a stop light.I don’t know what it could.... any ideas ?

I’m not sure if you’re located in the Northeast, but it’s been extremely cold up here over the last week or two. Extreme cold can make manual shifting notchier, and even lend to the shifter popping out of gear more easily. This is especially true before the car warms up thoroughly. That’s my first thought when hear your issue started in the last week or two, unless you live in a warm climate area.

+1 on the cold temps and increased shifting effort. Royal Purple 75w-90 gear oil helps some. As does a Hurst short shifter. A skip shifter eliminator is mandatory.
Be patient and don't force it. If it balks at going into second, I just do a 1-3 shift until things warm up a bit more.

You’re welcome. That was my only thought, based on what you were describing. It’s possible something else is going on, but just keep an eye on it as the temperature rises over the next few months. Good luck 👍🏻

I see your car is a 2017. How many miles since the fluid has been changed? If never or if it has been a while, fresh fluid can make all the difference.

I have used the stock OEM fluid, Royal Purple Synchromax, Redline, and AmsOil Torque Drive fluids.

The AmsOil by far was the smoothest shifting and had much better cold temperature properties.

+1 on the brake fluid too! Aren't we just full of great ways to fill your time?
Anyway, changed mine over to Motul 660. It's a DOT4 which is an upgrade from the factory DOT3, but compatible so mixing is not an issue.

Car only has 17K miles on it (no track days- just drive it like I stole it) but is a 2017 like yours and it made a big difference in braking and clutch feel. Strongly recommend. https://www.camaro6.com/forums/showthread.php?t=545244 here's a good how-to.
