Chevy needs to make a statement! "SS DR edition"

We all know dodge is claiming victory for fastest NA car, yet Chevy has the components already tested and available. Chevy should take their SS, throw the parts they tested and sell in the Chevy Performance and make it a "SS Drag Race Edition". The test car runs 10.6's. Thats much faster than the dodge NA, Zl1, and Hellcat for that matter. For those that don't recall the Drag car they tested, here is one of the articles.

I don't envision drag racing bragging rights falling into their "real people" JD power award marketing scheme

I can't see many of those being drag raced, simply due to how expensive they would be. Remember that the Auto-X concept was estimated to be over $40,000... with a 4-cylinder. It would be cheaper or the same cost for any serious drag strip-goer to get a 1SS and build the motor, get a new converter, and get a set of wheels and tires. Not only is that cheaper, it's faster!

How many people will be satisfied with a stock car with a warranty after running a 10.6 for the 11th trip to the strip in a row? I know I wouldn't... unless I'm a bracket racer lol

I look at it this way. They already did the testing and offer the parts for sale. People that buy an SS and intend to mod it anyway will be spending the money. Why not offer an SS with the components already installed as a special edition, and try to bump sales, even if its just promotion of a limited edition car. Dodge is doing it with the Redeye, Demon, etc..

I agree, and while they're at it they can offer an e85 option as well. Imagine an e85 option with cai and still having the warranty.

more and more people on this forum want less.. who says no to more power? People are always making excuses for why GM doesn't need to compete with the competition.. I don't understand. GM should offer it and who ever wants one will buy one, Camaro sales are awful as it, more options can only help. I'm still hoping they release the Chevy performance parts they spoke about for the ZL1.

They did. It's called COPO... but they're so expensive, hardly anyone can afford one.

The stock ZL1 time around the Nurburgring is still in the top 20 of all time. I think that is a mighty impressive achievement considering the price point of the cars close to and ahead of it. But doubt this translates into sales.

But could be used in a commercial...They could do a small blip of the Zl1 racing that track, then cut to the SS Drag Car hitting the strip, and bring it home with a Camaro driving on the streets. Instead we get 4 people standing their hearing about awards Chevy has won...BFD
