I think a lot of you are confusing AFM with drone. Roger Ramjet is referring the resonance around 1800 to 2000 RPMs. I'm sure this is worse with some exhaust systems. it isn't a problem with my LTs and stock catback but, it was very pronounced with a Borla Street catback.

Automatic Fuel Management.

When certain parameters are met, the ECM shuts down the opening of valves and fuel injectors on 4 of the eight cylinders. Which may allow better fuel economy. Its only used on the V8 Auto trans models.

If u do a search about AFM, u will find MANY post about this "FEATURE".

Im no mechanic or expert....but i love hearing my v8....call it drone or whatever....but hearing it rumble down the interstate does not bother me at all....and the BA sound system turns up plenty to drown it out.....probably not relevant to the thread, but if you want a quiet car buy a family car

With AFM engaged, mine sounds like it is 4 cylinder under load. Not a nice sound. I like the 8 cyc sound but when in 4 cyc mode, it sounds like something is wrong and is lugging the engine.
