Interesting. Doesn't the relay attacks work by someone pressing their buttons though? I didn't think they work while the remote is idle. I use the auto lock feature of my car. But I do wonder how this all works.

This allegedly protects against them amplifying the signal and making the car think the fob is in the car when it's actually in your house.

From the NAV-TV website:
Secure-A-Key is an anti-theft device specifically designed for preventing relay-style frequency amplification attacks. The most common way high-tech thieves steal PKE-equipped cars is by using a device to capture frequency of the vehicle’s key-fob, then transmit the data to a co-conspirator near the vehicle for unlocking and starting the car. Secure-A-Key installs inside your vehicle’s Keyless-GO remote and electronically disconnects the battery from the fob after a few minutes of in-activity. This disables the radio frequency communication of the keyfob until the key is once again in motion.

Interesting idea, I could see some people benefiting from this. The biggest benefit is convenience. It's either this or a Faraday case/box which can be inconvenient.

Has anyone actually experienced remote relay attacks on the camaro? I ask because there are measures that can be taken to make remote relay impossible I just have no idea what GM actually implemented. It's certainly a more advanced system than the early days of PKE since it knows the remote approximate location and not just that it's somewhere nearby.

Nope. There's no shielding involved.

Yeah, I read how it works. This is way more convenient than a Faraday cage.

I keep all my vehicles keys in faraday cage-style pouches when in the house.
having said that, there is no one I'd rather sell my car to than the insurance company. if someone wants it bad enough, they'll get it. |
