2016 vs. later years? Why so many owners?

I'm looking for a used Camaro and am wondering about two specific things:

- How far away from the 2016 model year should I stay? I generally subscribe to the "don't buy the first year" club and am wondering how many little quirks got worked out from 2017 on. If 2016 is ok "as long as...", what are the things to look for that need to have been done to it?

- Why do so many of the convertibles (I don't know if this holds true for coupes as I'm only looking for a 'vert) have 2-3 owners at only a few years old?

If it helps, I'm seeking a 2SS 6-speed convertible w/ NPP as sort of "minimums".

I've owned my '16 2SS m6 for about 6 months know, and am pretty active in forums and reading about the car. I haven't found any real issues with the '16 cars that haven't been issues with the later cars, although I'm sure there may be some. Seems to be lots of issues with the shudder on the automatic cars, which won't affect you and I with the M6, and then possible groan out of the differential on cold mornings before it warms up. Both are seen on later models as well. I'm sure there are other nickel and dime stuff, but those seem to the be the two I hear a lot about.

Nothing really wrong with the 2016s but if I was looking for a used 2SS I would go for a 2018 or later. Of course the 2019 has the one year look which most people on here hate but looks good to others. The 2016-2018s look the same and you should be able to find a good condition used one for a good price. If you can find a 2017 Fifty 2SS vert for a good price then I would grab it because of it being a special/unique Camaro. Good Luck.

My 2016 SS M6 (built in Jan, 2016) and owned by me since Mar. 2016 now has 28K miles. They have been trouble free miles. The only exception was the battery was replaced at 35 months because of a slow crank issue. Its never been in a dealership service bay for any other repairs. Mine was built about 6 months into the 2016 production run and many little first year production issues had been remedied by then. So maybe a good deal on a low miles late production 2016 could be a good move.

Good luck with the hunt. Hope you find a good deal on a 16-18 model.

I have a 2016 and have had zero problems with it.

Here's a 2SS M6 convertible in CT. https://www.robertschryslerdodge.net...3bb54a9c4c.htm

Seems a little high to me, but I feel you could talk them down. I also got mine (not a vert) at an incredible price though, so I don't know if that's high or about right for a 2016 vert with 11,100 miles on it. Good luck!

i really don't think staying away from 2016 matters. you're buying a used car anyway so any year something is going to break eventually.

I bought my 2016 2ss A8 brand new. She’s my daily driver and I’ve racked up 82k miles. So far no shudders or groans as previously mentioned. Replaced the battery once and it’s been in for the recall issues but otherwise trouble free (knock wood).

I bought my 2016 2SS vert a few days ago. Only quirk is it never got the Android Auto update and I have no options to connect to home or phone hotspot. Otherwise an Amazon ng car with only 8k miles.

I was looks ng for a manual so my selection was limited but the ones on the market were either 2017s coming off lease, low mile one owner cars that were weekenders or multi owner low to mid mile cars. I stayed away from the higher mile ones.

Many of these cars were bought to be second or third cars for weekends on summers. Some people got tired of paying for something they rarely used or didn't like the power.

Mine was a trade from a guy who was upgrading to a 2019 ZL1.

Check Carfax and make sure it wasn't a rental. Fleet might mean lease or a corporate car.

(Yes, I know my IROC is not a 5th nor a 6th gen. I'm here as I am thinking about a newer convertible and I know from experience most of the Camaro forum members are helpful and understanding.... right?!?)

If you're going to be doing engine tuning the '16 model year is favored as you don't need to get the engine control unit (ECU) cracked. The ECUs can be modified on all years, it's just another step on the later year models.

Theres no such thing as a "slow crank" issue. Your car has a mechanical fuel pump under the hood aside from the electronic fuel pump in the tank and the car needs to crank for an extended period of time to run that fuel pump to build the fuel pressure the DI engine needs. It shouldnt happen when the car is warm/recently driven. Now if the battery was low, it wouldnt crank at all.

Thanks for the thoughts all.

No android Auto? Is it in the later years?

Why a 2018 over a 2017 aside from it being the last one before the styling updates?

Not interested in tuning, so that doesn’t come into play.
