when the tube size gets too big the air gets lazy and loses velocity, this lazy air has to be motivated by the next pulse, which slows down i.e. removes energy from the next pulse. So a tube size that keeps the air moving is the correct size. WOT there is more than enough air even at 2" pipe. 2" pipe was big block street pipe size for 40 plus years, this engine is moving close to the air of any 60s big block, hence it likes a big pipe. Many of us still think about the 5.0 OHV days that engine put out 185 to 215 from the factory, so you can see that even though the LT1 is a "small block". It is moving bigblock air at WOT.

I went with 1 and 7/8 I still feel it was the best driving, low speed, MPG and fitment choice. I did not cook a wire, but did have to modify two, I did cook the starter.

2" will make more power NA from mild to wild and FI for sure...

There are reflective pressure waves reaching the exhuast valve, they just ain't all pretty like you see in your mind with equal length headers and an open collector on a flatplane engine. Closed exhaust, crossplane it is mash up of pulse waves... toss in an X pipe too.

So this is more about each cylinders tube maintaining its velocity rather than being dependent on its neighbor via scavenging?

independent till it reaches the collector which should have enough size to flow 2 pipes simultaneously. probably would mean 2 and 3/4 all the way back (not a popular size).
