Brembo Brakes

Does anyone know why the 6 piston Brembo Brakes on an SS are $3175 option, but can be bought from GM Performance for much less (found online for $2100) after purchase? Am I missing something?

Looking quickly, the cheaper ones online don't include rotors. The optional ones and the ~$4000 ones online include slotted rotors.

If you can find the complete package online including the calipers and rotors, then I don't know.

The option price also includes the labor to install them when the car arrives at the dealer as they are an LPO (Limited Personalization Option) if you are ordering a car. They can also be had as an accessory after the fact.

The brake kit itself is $3000, p/n 23245471. That $175 is the labor side of things.

$175...well worth it to me...the 4 pots in the SS are real neck snappers...not sure what you gain on this unless you track...then makes total sense...imo

The entire kit can be had here for $2,362... You are paying well over $800 in labor...

How big of an improvement is the 6 Piston Setup over the 4 Piston Setup on an SS?

Is it something I would notice on the street or only when pushing the car to its limits?

IMHO if you aren't on a racetrack you wont find the limits of the 4 piston setup. I've had both, on the street and the road course, and while the 6 pots look cool they are more rotating mass so there is tradeoff to both.

You'll get ~7% increase in front brake torque, which will really only be an advantage if you run a stickier tire. Otherwise, stopping distances will be about the same. The primary benefit is going to be from improved heat capacity/dissipation, but that is not something you'll likely ever be able to take advantage of on public roads, unless you have access to some amazing mountain highways.
