Could be smaller or larger, IMSA capped displacement at 5.5L I believe. All GM said was that the engine in the C8.R is based off a production engine.

Well...I didn't think these were to start dropping until tomorrow, but this is the first real drive test and review of the new C8 I've seen:

https://www.roadandtrack.com/new-car...st-drive-test/

I haven't read it all yet (just wanted to get this here lol) but they say "Good...not quite Great".

Is it just me or is the trend of these reviews seem to be a little disappointed once you get away from the acceleration numbers

EDIT - seems like they are impressed but some of the braking and handling characteristics surprised some of the reviewers a bit

Road and Track was the one that seemed to dial down the excitement a bit (well...except for the crazy acceleration) but the motortrend and Car and Driver articles are mostly high praise.

They all talk about the understeer (they feel is baked in on purpose) and the slightly worse braking distance. Some mentions about how they wish it was more brash around town, but I'm not sure that is a bad thing.

I think the tone I got of disappointment came sometimes when they compared it to the C7 in some of the measurables and the C7 came out on top.

2 things that still shock me after reading the reviews.

1. The straightline speed, this thing is a missile.

2. The Curb weight. the 3LT tipped the scales at over 3600 pounds

The thing about a lot of these car reviewers is that if it were more brash around town, they would bash it and say that it needed to be more refined.

I think typical for a brand new design, It will have some growing pains. Honestly, I feel bad for those who are the first to jump. They will be getting the worst of what is to come and paying a premium for it. Well, maybe I don't, there is a huge penalty for the "have to have it first" syndrome.

My opinion is that I am very happy I am only 1.5 years into my SS 1LE and since it is ON POINT, I have no issues waiting for GM to sharpen the C8 into what it can become and not paying top dollar for it. Despite its poor sales figures, from a performance guy's perspective the Gen. 6 1LE's models are a Unicorn and a "very rare every once in a while" type of product. The last time GM had such a car was the C5 Z06.

I think 3-4 years from now will be the perfect time for a mid engine C8.

Based on the reviews, it seems this car was built to be a comfortable cruiser and not a high performance sports car. The only way it beats the C7 is in straight line acceleration.

The initial reviews make it out to be a double off the wall and not the home run everyone expected.

Hence the future versions. Especially the electric front motor ones with torque vectoring.

The future is in active aero and 4 wheel torque vectoring.

The C8 Z51 was slower through the figure 8 than the SS 1LE. That’s not a good look for the halo car.

If 11.2 at 122 is a comfortable cruiser, sign me up!

Nobody has run laps in it yet. Measuring g's around a skidpad and doing braking tests are not always great indicators of a car's track capabilities. I will be very surprised if it doesn't handily beat the C7 around any track they put them on.

I think when lap times start coming out everybody will be like

Edit: Oops, somebody did run some laps.

Summary... C8 eats C7's lunch.

It's on better tires and has better rear end grip for getting the power down better. That means the C7 carries its speed better through the corners. I wouldn't be surprised to see the C7 Z51 edge it out on a tighter course.

The two cars that were tested together, the C8 and the C7....BOTH were Z51's
