New Member - 2017 2SS Convertible

It took me 46 years, but I hit my midlife crisis pretty hard! I've been driving Silverados for many years, but decided I'm not a fan of the looks of the new one. I decided to go look at them anyway and see if they would grow on me, when I saw a bright red 1SS convertible. The dealer had me in it in a matter of minutes and I decided that's what I needed.

I did my research and figured out I really wanted the options that come with a 2SS, but I didn't want the price that comes with the new ones. I really wanted a white one, so that made it even harder to find exactly the one, but I did. I went with a Certified Pre-Owned one that has 16K miles on it.

I think the biggest challenge for me is where to put my phone and how much of my junk can I fit into the car! I had the larger console and the under-seat storage in the back of my Silverado, so I'm losing a lot of space. That being said, I didn't buy this car for that!

I'm enjoying reading through the posts and getting ideas. Looking forward to getting to know the car.

Pics coming soon. They're touching up a spot on the car and fixing one small issue for me and I should get it before Tuesday. Like a little kid waiting for Christmas.

Congratulations on the new toy Don't forget to post up those pics.

Not much storage space in this car for sure, heh... if you don't use wireless charging, you can fairly easily swap out the charging pad for the 1SS cubby (part number 84004284, costs about $50). It won't be a match for the Silverado of course, but I bet you'll forget this as soon as you floor the skinny pedal.

Thanks! I can't wait to get it.

I wouldn't mind the wireless charging, but I understand it won't work with my iPhone.

Congratulations and welcome to the 6gen forum! I’m sure you will enjoy it as soon as you get to drive and experience what us Camaro owners do when we drive ours! I see it this way, if you wanted plenty of room to store things you would have bought a new truck instead of a sports car! You will get all kind of opinions and advice on this forum when posting something but we all are just a bunch of gear heads and car enthusiasts that love cars especially Camaros!

Thank you! I've driven a few on test drives (one for two hours), but that was just enough to make me decide I had to have one. I'm ready to start driving it, cleaning it, etc. It's going to be fun.

The funny part about the storage is all of the junk I had hidden away in the truck that I didn't really need.

we would of course love to see pics
do you plan on doing your own maintenance like oil and other fluid changes? There is a wealth of information here about that.
Welcome to the club!

I bought 2 of these seat pockets but only use one on the passenger seat next to the console for my phone and other things. Works great.

Surprisingly enough, GM does offer an upgraded wireless charger kit for the 2016-18 that works with modern phones, pretty easy to install, too, it's part number 84526978 and costs about $60-70 when ordered from any of the online parts stores.

Here is an install video for the upgrade kit, and you can find the current wireless charger compat chart here.

However, most importantly, don't forget to enjoy the beast

Congrats on the SS! I just bought one too. Not so much a mid life crisis, I’ve just wanted one for a long time since my first car was a 67 convertible (should never have sold it, but I was young and needed the $). I joked with my wife that I was gonna get MDLFCRS for the plate (it’s actually available in MI), but she said she’d never even ride in the car with that plate! I’ve settled on a version of SUMMER FUN since it will be my summer fun car to cruise Woodward like I did in my teens in the 67!

As for the phone holder, check into ProClip. Just google that and it’ll come up. They make great mounts that snap on (no mods req’d) and are custom made for every car. They have two versions for the 6, one on the right side of the gauge cluster up high, and the other to the right of the shifter on the passenger side on the console. We have these in our Caddies and love em. You buy the mount for the specific car, then the phone holder for whatever phone you have. Those are also specific to your phone and case too. You put them together for a custom fit!

Welcome and congratulations! All the cool kids have 2017 white Camaro 2SS convertibles.

We also have a Silverado crew cab so we were spoiled being able to take the kitchen sink on road trips. That being said, we've done a few trips with the Camaro. You can fit a small carry-on bag in the trunk (with the convertible barrier in place) and a small cooler. We throw some soft bags in the back seat and off we go. No problem!
See you at Camarofest in 2020!

Congratulations on the Camaro. I too hit my mid-life crisis and turned in my Jeep for a Camaro Fifty 2SS for my fiftieth birthday. I have enjoyed the car more than I had expected.
